most of those messages are for the 2nd gen 2.7L, which we can support, much easier than the 3rd gen. They will release with the 4.0 in vF tuner when we release 736kb file support.

The goal is to support every tunable toyota :).

But the 2nd gen stuff 4.0L, 2.7L... if you think that the 3rd gen has a lot of ECU versions....... that's why it has not been released yet. I think just the 4.0L has close to 100 different ECU IDs.

Is there any rhyme or reason for this?

code fixes, bugs, and I believe a lot of ECU versions were updated because the stock tune had really bad detonation problems

So does this mean that 2016 is available? Or is it only automatic still?

2021 4X4 Sport AC 3.5L MT - OME lift with Dakar leafs. 10x33 Coopers. ARB Bumper. KDMax Tune. 2017 SE AC 2.7L 2WD AT - OME lift with Dakar leafs, BA bumper, tooter manifold spacer, header, OVTuned. LED lights. Does not run like your average 2.7; this truck pulled a broken down HMMWV out of a wash. 2008 PreRunner 4.0L - 3" spring lift with Bilstein 5100s, ARB bumper, rear sway arm. Old Reliable, been around, beat up, and still runs like a beast.
    I have the 2.7 tune in a 17 AT.

The real value in the tune for me was the ability to adjust the AT. I did a ton of work on the shift points and greatly improved drivability with 33x10 tires and 4.88 gears. Along with a speedometer adjuster circuit, adjusting the transmission was the key to getting back to >20 MPG.

On the engine tune, the things you can do is adjust advance and adjust the MAF. I spent weeks working on the advance, and most of that was learning to notice positive and negative differences while driving at different RPM and loads. It takes time to come up with a small improvement, make small changes and evaluate, not push too far, and leave room for unexpected variables. I haven't put time into learning the concepts for playing with the mix yet - and learning this stuff takes time especially when you have a life full of other things.

By far, my most significant upgrade to my 2.7 (excluding the transmission tune/speedo correction) is the LCE header. I actually adjusted the overdrive shift points because I could hold those gears with less throttle. But it was adjusting the AT that made the LCE really worth it.

NONE of this will bring magic power to push against headwinds or take hills at 85 MPH while retaining 6th gear. The wind drag at those speeds overwhelms the 2.7 and a tune won't fix that (the 2.7 is almost 100 HP less than the 3.5). This is still a Hilux motor, and intended for the parts of the world where interstate highways are uncommon. The 2.7 is more than enough to run 2 lane highways at 60 to 70 MPH. At freeway speed, you need apply so much throttle that the truck will drive in fourth gear for anything that is not flat or downhill. (and before anyone reminds me, clearly 33x10 tires do not help)

Bottom line is this; IF my truck had a MT I wouldn't have done ANY of this stuff. I would have just shifted it how ever I wanted making it drive however I wanted. (I also have a 2021 with 3.5 and MT - and driving that truck the way I want is way simpler)

So will there “eventually” be a tune for the 2020 SR 2.7L AT? Have been waiting on this for a while! Please let me know!

Probably such a small demand for 2.7L ECU tuning it's not worth for these guys to spend the time and effort, it would have made little 4 bangers real nice.
