I was seriously going to purchase this one but the $300 shipping made me hesitant. Then when I saw that Desert Armor was having a February sale, I jumped on that. It's 2" shorter than the Walkabout 62". But the deal was hard to pass up. It was $125 off, free shipping, and free $350 annex room included. No sales tax as well so I got it for $1,574.99 otd. It is supposed to ship the 3rd week of March.

Suhweet deal indeed!! I'll take a look, even though I wouldn't get the same screamin' deal. Please post pics when you get it mounted. The other 60" I've noticed is the hardshell Roofnest Condor that opens like an iKamper....and only slightly cheaper than an iKamper. Oy.

Hi guys, found this thread in the search bar. I’m new to the RTT family and have just installed my brand new Smittybilt Overlander Gen 2. Overall very impressed, but I have a concern about the ladder mounts potentially rubbing a hole in the cover. The ladder came with a pair of small 4 layered pieces of fabric which may be used for this somehow. Anyone have any tips/solutions or know what I’m talking about? There’s a thread on my page specifically for this if you’d like to view that as well. Thanks a lot!

I have the 2nd gen Smittybilt and it is surpassing all my expectations. Nice and roomy. Protects against wind well.

In my opinion, the annex is pointless for an RTT. RTT is attached to the vehicle. You cannot move the vehicle when the tent is set up. Personally, I'd like the ability to set up and pack down quickly as to get to the next destination or relax. I can only see it being appealing for cold weather temperatures so you can set up a Mr. Heater buddy and contain heat.

I also have the Smittybilt Gen 2. Did you have any concern about how tight your cover sits on your ladder mounts? I think I found a my solution, just wondering if other people had the same thing going on.

No issues with my cover at all. Though I may not understand what you mean.

We went back and forth on getting the annex, we decided that when we go to music festivals, which can be days it would be worth it. Only time will tell or once I try to put it up and find it’s a real pain in the ass.

it would be nice if the annex was able to fold up and pack away with the tent.

I’m at work or id try to snap a picture. The cover sits pretty tight all the way around, which is a good thing. No complaint there, I love the cover. What I’m referring to is where your ladder mounts are located when the tent is closed (would be the side opposite of where you enter your tent when open). It’s just a thin piece of metal that I could see eventually rubbing a hole in the cover.

Agree, we discussed using one of our ground tents instead of the annex, as it’s still something that needs to be packed anyways.

I wish I had a pic but I thought I'd share what I tried this weekend. I took this stroller fan and used it as an exhaust fan to reduce condensation in the tent since we were in the mid 20's for a couple of nights. I had it wrapped around one of the legs and aimed out one of the exhaust ports on the top of the tepui ayer. It's battery-powered but not enough to run overnight, but it'll run while plugged in. I left it on all night and never had any condensation at all, which was great.

Picked up a Mt Hood over the weekend. I removed the rear half of the cab rack because clearance was only about 1.5”. Worried about flex while wheeling.
leave it as is or is 1.5” good enough?

i like the way it looks as it. What was the clearance when you did have the rear part of the rack on there?

You could always bolt a board/plank onto the bedrack over hanging the roof rack, then find a good place to flex your suspension and and look to see if it is rubbing.

Is that an awning on the back where the RTT ladder goes? Looks like you would be blocking tent access with the awning or am I not looking at it right?

Yes that’s an awning on the rear. As I use the tail gate to cook etc.
The ladder can be on any side or the back.

How do you guys feel about having the soft top tents on a daily driver? I feel like theft or slashing would be an issue in comparison to a hard top that you can lock up.
