    Ok I see that now.

So one last stupid question... I don't see where this form takes down any of my brothers information. So how does California know its coming from him - to me? I guess the gun serial number they can trace it back to him?

I apologize for the dumb questions this is my first gun so I'm not familiar with all these California laws and regulations.

You would be required to use an FFL and due a PPT transfer to follow the legalities. Yes, you need your FSC card in order to do so but that certificate is only for firearms purchases NOT to own.

This form is for "intra-familial" transfers which does not include siblings. Only vertical on the family chain. See penal code sections 27875 & 27920.

Well shoot maybe that's why he said the gun has to be with him to do a transfer. So I guess i'm back to my original two options I put in my original question:

    - Next time I drive up to see his family bring the shotgun with me and we both go to a gun store and do the transfer?
    - I ship it to him, he brings it to a gun dealer who ships it to a gun dealer near me and i pick it up? (although i have no clue about shipping a firearm - maybe I have to ship it to him through a dealer as well)

I'll take care of my gun safety course shortly. This isn't a rush but I want to buy ammo and apparently can't until this is taken care of.

Honestly I would ask local PD how you should handle it. Not too sure on the legalities of transporting a firearm that isn't registered to you, or shipping one as well. Safest option might be to have him come down to you and then do the transfer.

Good idea. He doesn't come down here too often. Came down for the wedding (duh) and brought it with him. I'll see the next time he decides to come down.

Is this a reprise of the same thing from a few years ago? IIRC it was related to companies selling products (“off road use only”) that were defeating emission controls?

Contact your local FFL and see what they suggest. When you transfer a firearm in CA you have to wait at least 10 days before you can receive the firearm so if you drive up to him to do the transfer you'll have to drive back up in 10 days to pick it up.

You're local FFL MAY be able to receive the firearm as a "shipment" and perform the transfer but I'm speculating here. Your local PD will be useless in the matter. Don't waste your time.

By FFL you mean Federal Firearm License, aka like a licensed dealer? Although I have to wait 10 days are you required to pick it up in 10 days or could that be like months? I only head up like twice a year typically.

Yes, the gun shop you'll be using to make the transfer.

If I remember correctly the DROS expires after 30 days so no. If you don't pickup within that time period you'll have to go through the process again.

Additionally, you'll be charged a storage fee if you don't pick up within 30 days or so. It'll vary per shop but they don't want to hold onto your property for free.

This is because the "for offroad purposes only" has been slapped on everything and everyone is slapping it on their on-road only vehicles and then they pull the "I didn't know i couldn't do that" card. Just like all the rolling coal assholes led to california requiring diesels to be smogged. Roadside smog checks used to be a thing like dui checkpoints and i bet they are going to be making a comeback soon, and then they'll start checking headlights, exhaust decibel levels, window tint and anything else they think they can fine you for...

Maybe I’m just getting older (or the redneck is leaving my system), but that sounds actually pretty good to me. Tired of getting blinded by Jeeps and hearing base BMWs with straight pipes all night

There are pros and cons. The biggest one being them smelling that sweet new revenue source. Then suddenly your MT tires are too loud. Your lifted truck no longer handles like it should, and is therefore unroadworthy. Give them an inch and they'll take your wallet.

Does anyone know of a reputable shop in San Diego County for re-gear that wont break the bank? I'm aware of Premier West in Riverside but unfortunately my schedule doesn't align with their appointment availability. Appreciate the help!

Just a shout out for our forum 'OP', Jason "Speed Freek" for his great mechanical skills and friendly Tacoma service! Thanks Jason for the brake 'tune up' today. The rear drum shoes you installed in 2017 have been fine but with the adjustment, they are working even better now!

Not San Diego but close. The gentleman below came recommended to me and did great work. Very reasonable too. He did the work in Temecula.
