Spring break and most of family is working so I am thinking about a solo trip to Moab. Looking for highlights. Never been there. Caveat? Need to be able to drive the 24 hours back home...

following. im headed there next weekend and havent been on my own before. i got the moab funtreks book for moab and the surrounding area, but am coming up short on nice places to camp.

a question for you is what do you want to do there? drive technical trails? hike stuff? be near water? developed camp grounds? hotels? dispersed camping?

There's a thread specific to Moab at the top of the page.

White Rim requires permits from National Park service ... I think they have some first come/first served available. One option is to drive down Shafer Trail and park at the intersection with White Rim, and ride your bike in as far as you think you can go and get back. Bring lots of water and be prepared. Then continue on into town on the dirt (Potash Rd etc) in your truck. Not really a trail, but stunning. Be prepared for any weather including snow and learn the local regulations - dispersed camping is not allowed in some places by BLM or the county. Have fun!

just got back from moab yesterday.

camped the first night on willow springs (blm 378). theres a sign at the entrance off 191 that has a few notes about camping there. tons of people all over. we got there around 10 pm on thursday so didnt have a good look around and grabbed the first spot we found. you get to a point where it says sovereign atv trail and after watching a b roll offroad video on youtube, i didnt wanna try finding camping there. at the same spot it splits to the left and says no camping beyond that too. we left around 5am to catch sunrise in arches, so no real idea about the scenery around it.

found a spot somewhere north of dead horse point state park. there were maybe 6 or 7 spots in the area and 2 were already taken when we got there around noon on friday. by 5 they were all taken. one of the better spots ive camped at with one tricky obstacle going up.

stayed at a hotel, red cliffs lodge, sat night. amazing views would stay there again. def worth a shower and real sleep before driving back to colorado springs in that white out storm, shit was white knuckle from breck to springs.

on the note of camping, there are quite a few campgrounds in the different canyons i drove past. most looked like only a couple people were camping there. im not sure if these are first come first serve camping or online reservations.

If you want to experience nice views on a trail that's easier than a fire road, check out Gemini Bridges -

Just make sure to watch your step out there; there's that huge opening in the center leading to a +160 foot drop.

Also a memorial up there of a guy and his Jeep falling to their death -

Gemini Bridges is a fun trail, you can't drive up and onto the actual bridges anymore though...probably ever since that guy in the Jeep fell and died. Used to be that you could

The trail that takes you there though is very scenic and easy, 2wd friendly unless it's snowy or raining

Hell there was even a Subaru, a Fusion, and as you put it, a "Raptor" every time we passed by a truck
