This. Water gets into that gap anytime you drive over wet pavement. While the engine is hot, no less. I wouldn't sweat it.

While driving in the rain, the engine is running and a little water splash is not an issue. The few drops that may enter the engine compartment usually evaporate right away on a continuously hot engine.
However, when a large amount of cold water enters a hot engine compartment and onto a component, the thermal shock can cause a hairline fracture.
The damage if any, usually occurs on the hot exhaust which may begin to be heard later and evidenced by a trace of black soot on the area of the fracture.

To reiterate, no sense in worrying unless or until there evidence of any damage as this is not a common occurrence

That is not true. It may be what people think but it is not true. I can tell you the engine testing by the manufacturer and their suppliers is far more rigorous that anything you can do with a water spray. Just the gasket manufacturers do thermal shock testing that takes a WOT engine down to idle and flush the block with room temp water. Rinse and repeat over and over. They do that for hours a day, multiple days in a row just for one set of gaskets. A few thousand hours of that on a block will eventually cause a failure. Sorry spraying water just won't do it.

I cracked the exhaust manifold on my 1st Gen (2.7) years ago by spraying water in that area.

Interesting, wouldve figured the block to go first before the thinner parts on the exhaust manifold as i assume there would be more yield ability with the thinner steel metal, then again im just theorycrafting and im no engineer.

I cracked two exhaust manifold screws on a jeep GC while trying to spray the wheel well. Not the manifold, but two of the screws that connect the manifold to the engine bock cracked. Likely due to unequal and rapid cooling/contraction of the manifold that stressed the screw. Manifold partially separated from the engine block and made a clicking noise when the engine was running.

    Check build thread!
And because Chrysler uses junk metal. I sold my 06 Grand yesterday before it disintegrated anymore than it already was.

Just to add fuel to this fire, I rinsed my engine off the other day. Garden hose sprayer set to ‘mist’. It worked well to rinse 11months of dust and dirt off. Engine was warm when I did it. No ill after-effects...yet!
