Cracked bed

Basically, the weight doesn't help anything. The bed (and frame) are designed to flex. Without the bed stiffeners, your bed can be knocked out of whack. With the right conditions (weight on the rails, temp, etc) that flex will transfer to places that don't flex so easily and cause problems. I do believe bed stuffers would have prevented this, personally.

 

I've never heard of that, however I know UV can break down glue. Although, with the material that's on top, I wouldn't think it would reach the fibers very well.

 

i wheel mine hard in -40 weather and its not cracked. If you bolt a bunch of weight to your box its going to stress it...

 

i bet your box sides are torn also.

 

Firewood. That, to me, is a trigger for this kinda thing.

Update....

The crack is closed up and now the bed feels more solid then ever

 

Now that's some HD corner gussets. Hell if I were you I'd refine that design a bit more and make it a little more sleek and I bet you could sell quite a few
