I use a Lansky - it works great for me for profiling a dull blade. Then, especially on the kitchen knives I use a rod to hone/maintain a sharp edge. I have a steel and a ceramic rod; I can't really tell which one is better.

Didn't know Bean sold them. I was just surprised to see such a fine tool on Amazon.

GB axes are superb. If I know I'm gonna abuse something, I'll use my $20 Fiskars. But damn, the handles on GB are so comfortable.

I own their previous model of this knife along with the smaller Hidden Canyon Hunter. By far it is my favorite 'hunting knife' I own to date. Mine came with a leather sheath which was of high quality. I believe Benchmade used to partner with Bone Collector brand and had a line of hunting knives through them, I was happy to see Benchmade finally made 'their own' knife.

I just bought the S30V and I'll see what happens. Just got on a knife buying spree, almost bought a Bradford on Etsy, but had to stop myself.

I've considered taking a class as well but right now I am just too busy with work and my kids. Sounds like you should spark that desire up!

That's true, there's always room for improvement and motivation. I like that. I like the way it turned out, having that forged hand made look still visible. I hope you pull the trigger soon! I did some research and bought a cheaper forge that's doing well for me, the devil forge from ebay. You oughta check it out. As far as an anvil, I lucked out and found a flat rectangle striking anvil for sale on craigslist. I had to drive 6 hours round trip to get it. It has no horn, but I just purchased a cheap cast steel anvil from Amazon. It's got mixed reviews so I'm curious how it will turn out.

Wow, ya got me at "forged my first knife". Can you change that handle to micarta? I've had some great hand forged knives, but those wooden handles always shrink.

SpyderCo Sharpmaker. It won't give you the best edge but it's super convenient and gets used hard at deer camp. When your hands/knives are caked in venison bits and you need to resharpen a blade after its been dulled from cutting meat from bone, you don't want to mess with the fancier models.

I can, I just dont have any. A good buddy of mine does a ton of wood working so he gives me his leftovers. I got a fair amount right now, white oak, mahogany, cedar, pecan, just to name a few.

Yeah, my first Esee. I bought an Ontario RTAK-II a few years back and its OK, like a mini machete, but I think I should have gotten the ESEE Junglas instead.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I have several Grans axes and hatchets. That hatchet is a nice one for sure, it also is the one that I almost got myself with. Keep it low and slow lol
