50mph gusts! Been quite the windy stretch this weekend.

Warm weather in our future too. Jiminy is done with night skiing next Saturday. So my last two shifts are this week, not gonna cry about that, I'm ready for woods work and lawn mowing season.

Yeah, seeing that too. And a day of rain too, that will wash the remaining snow away. :(
Well....it was a good February. I got a taste of getting back in shape.
I think my next little phase is going to be hiking to fish. Those little spots that are only accessible by boots. Would love to get into the high peaks....or even the Maine woods. That would be fun.
Next warm round will have me getting the camping/fishing stuff ready.

You might have to do some hiking to find a secluded spot now that everyone is an outdoorsman during these covid days lol

You're a "traditionalist" and the hipsters are trying to move in on your territory. Its like confusing a real lumberjack type for a hipster because he wears flannel and a beard.

Maybe do some hipster hunting instead of fishing this year

Have a buddy from CO out getting some ACL surgery and he was saying the skinning scene is BLOWING up all over out there, tons of races and like pros/sponsors and stuff. A few guys coming out east to try to set some ridge races up in the Adirondacks etc...

    Was thinking....

Race up to top of our ridge from somewhere in Wtown (Wabeeka?) and race to the windmills? Maybe on the other side of the road and use the trail, could go from Rt2 to albany over to where it ends in Hanckcok/NY....

I don't want to participate lol, but I think it could be a fun thing.

@Bridge4 your YouTube carpenter plan is sounding more like reality each day.
I called a guy yesterday, he didn't even ask what I had...he told me he was booked solid.
Another guy said he has so much work from people moving into to county, he wasn't taking on anything more.

    Fuck it!

Yeah, our guy retired after doing the MIL and I'm scared to have to find a new contractor. Even if you get someone, will they suck? Lots of people get by doing shit work.

Do you have to totally rip it down and redo? I really think there has to be the skill set on here to do this. I am good at carrying and moving things, not so much anything else. But I'll carry and move wood all day!

I agree...I feel like I am starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel here. Why risk it?
I don't think it needs to be totally ripped down. There is PT stuff under what is there, but PT can rot too. So that is why I wanted the insurance of having someone that knows what the hell they are doing if the shit hit the fan.
My plan is to rip the floor out and replace with something more durable, level out the framing (it sinks during mud season) which means new posts under the decking (posi-holes maybe), railings need to be done, and of course, up to code, replace all rotted trim work with a more durable option, new stairs (maybe stone?).....and whatever else may pop up that I can't see.
Lots of work to do and needs the skills....like you said, I have no issue getting my hands dirty and being a grunt. I just don't have the skills or knowledge for this stuff.

tldr version: blowing up the porch. :boom:

I think this can be done, if we get one guy who knows what the fuck they are doing! A lot of it seems reasonable for regulars, but making sure everything is level and A+ I think requires a pro. Most on here seem to work with metal though, anyone know any wood workers?!

I have one that lives down the road from me, does good work from photos I've seen, I'll try to get his contact info from our manager who grew up with him. My parents have a ton of fire places and have work done as well, so I will reach out to them too.

Thanks! I have a double flue chimney that shows a lot of efflorescence and bricks were spalling last year. I washed it with acid then sprayed it with a sealant and the spalling stopped but the efflorescence came back. I think I'm going to be told all the facing brick and crown should be replaced. If that price isn't horrific, I'd maybe have them fix some issues with a small brick front porch too. I think my other chimney is okay, fortunately.
