No pics. It was dark out. I’ll snap some today when I get back out there.

I’ve had trucks in similar circumstances I have gotten them out with a lot digging, jacking, and tugging. A winch would be handy, but I’ve never owned one. I have a hi-lift jack with a winching kit which I have never needed to use (yet).

The ground around the truck kinda reminds me of a peat bog or maybe one of those dry lake beds they have out west. I can walk around on top of it for the most part, but every once in a while my foot falls through up to my shin. I’m not sure how I didn’t get stuck during the previous 300 yards I drove across it.

Any anchors in the area from which to attach a winching vehicle to?

If I remember right, yes, but not super close.

Here’s some pics of how I spent my afternoon. I was unable to get it out with jacking and digging. The mud on the driver side started as slightly frozen tacky stuff when we arrived and became 6-12” of soup that you couldn’t stand in without worrying about not being able to get out by the time I through in the towel. It was way worse than last night. You could literally see the truck slowly sinking in further. We had two farm jacks and neither was capable of lifting the driver side out of the muck. I ended up calling a tow truck that had 100+ yards of cable. The tug was super simple.

FYI: hi-lift jacks aren't worth jack after they get muddy.

I think a winch has gotten higher on my priority list.

That's a lot more mud than what I was thinking of.

That looks like a construction area. I’m starting to notice a pattern here.

I've been taking that route back and forth to my girlfriend's place all winter. It's a "shortcut".

It’s a shortcut til you get stuck. Then it’s an expensive long cut

I think I need to go back to 2wd trucks. I got stuck more but it was much easier to get unstuck. It's pretty amazing how much trouble 33" mud terrains, a rear locker, ATRAC and 2" of lift will get me into. I drove through the mud and snow a good 300 yards to get to that spot.

The driver said his winch is rated at 20,000 pounds per line. It had no trouble tugging me out. I'm curious if a 8-10k winch mounted to a aftermarket front bumper would have worked as well.

Or crazy idea here: stop taking shortcuts through construction areas. How many “shortcuts” that you end up stuck in is it going to take for you to figure that one out?

You could have had a 16k winch on the front and it wouldn’t have mattered. There was no anchor points lol

What else am I going to use my mud terrains, rear locker, and ATRAC for? Circling the mall? I built the truck to take it off road (and also be a daily driver and tow the boat). There's always a risk of getting stuck and I learn something each time I do get stuck.

There were many anchor points. Look at all the concrete pipes in the photos. Also I think a pull pall might have worked too. The ground in much of the area was quite solid but soft enough to drive an anchor in.

Those wouldn’t hold, they would pull right to... and as soft as that ground was, so would a pull pal

a deadman *might* have held if you got it deep enough but buried to the frame in mud is a heck of a lot of force and you’d just be pulling more into it than back out of it.

Sure, that's the logical solution. But what fun would that be?

Some of them are buried in the ground as part of the sewer system (e.g. the one to the front and left of the truck). I don't think those are going anywhere. The other ones were in some cases in frozen ground. The ground was very unpredictable between frozen solid and soup.
