To each their own, but I'm not big on the cam style. You're fine with lighter stuff, but I've had them slip while hauling motorcycles. It wasn't much, but yeah. I only use ratcheting. I understand why people don't like them, but after using them to tow for a few years, I'm more partial to them.

 

Maybe you just had lower quality straps? We used this style on our dirt bikes for years and years. It’s great because you don’t really need to worry about over tightening. I agree though that ratcheting have their place. They’re better for heavy cargo in the bed. I got these straps specifically for strapping stuff down on the rear seat platform.

 

You're fine with what you're using them for. I only used to buy Ancra straps. At the time, they were considered the best straps sold. I think they were like $40 a strap. I have no idea if they are anymore.

 

Wording is important...replacing ratchet w/ ratchet and cam with can.

 

That’s what I figured! At some point I’ll buy some ratcheting ones from them as well. Maybe stimulate them a lil

 

I love how visible the hammer hangers are with the bobbed bed.

Ive hit mine a few times wheeling. I’d love to see some sort of low profile set up fabbed up by JDFab like his SUA brackets. I know these things are tough as shit... but it’s one more thing to bang up and have to touch up.

Maybe it’s just the nature of the geometry of SOA to have something hanging low anyways?

 

I don’t think it really has to do with SOA or SUA, more so inverted shackle it not inverted shackle. If you wanted clearance there, then a shackle flip would be a better bet, but then you get the cons of a shackle flip. Personally I’d rather bang these and touch them up periodically than the alternative.

 

I’ve read a little about shackle flips but... what are the cons of a shackle flip?

 

Decreased ride quality compared to hammer hangers, not great if you carry a lot of weight and easier to put the leafs into a negative arch. Archive offers both the shackle flip and hammer hangers and himself recommends the HH to pretty much everyone.

 

Friends don't let friends shackle flip their rigs...

I added an external midland speaker to my GMRS setup. It’s much louder and a bit clearer too. Now I can listen to my music at a normal volume and still make out what the other guys are saying on the radio.
