Grew up on a farm that was frequently visited by skunks. We found the only .22 load that worked was a Long Rifle hollow point. Even then you had to hit it in the head. My younger brother tried once with a pellet gun. It did not go well. He spent a long time in the barn trying to get clean. We also added tomato or V8 juice to aforementioned cleaning remedy.
