Do you want to pay $30 per plug just to run Ruthenium? If yes AND you want to run 8s it requires A. Higher horsepower levels (think 400+) and B. A very precise wideband AFR logged tune.

Colder plugs produce more hydrocarbons which translates directly to more misfires. You will likely take a fuel economy hit and the plugs may foul quicker as their self cleaning properties would not be as good since you don't have the power levels to support them.

I ran 8s once upon a time, and I was not particularly happy with them, so I went back to the IKH-22s at the time. If you want to pay cheaper but not exactly pound for pound a 100% match to OE style (but still works obviously) but be Rutheniums go with the NGK 95125s. Yeah sure they are made for VWs, but they are correct in every aspect including reach and thread pitch. They just have a funky look on the top of them. You know how those Germans roll.

The Ruths that I run now self cleanse pretty darn well and now that I am 100% AFR sensor tuned for HPT, they should last that much longer. I'll see about pulling one in about 5-10K miles just to see how they are looking.

Help me understand this. Spark plugs don't create hydrocarbons - hydrocarbon is already there in the form of gasoline and your engine isn't a distillation column. Can't make more or less of it.

I'm assuming you're meaning that the lower heat range of the colder spark plugs in low temperature applications (i.e. engines that operate at lower RPMs and thus produce less heat) is more likely to create carbon fouling on the plug. Less heat is available to keep the carbon from depositing on the spark plug tip. The opposite would be true of a colder spark plug in a high heat application: the higher temperature of an engine that operates at high RPMs is sufficient for a more efficient burn of the hydrocarbon, thus reducing the creation of carbon fouling on the spark plug. In either a high or low RPM (heat generating) engine, there is a limit to the spark plug heat range that can be efficiency used.

I agree with what you are explaining. If you were to throw a vehicle on a 5 gas analyzer with the incorrect heat range for the engines power levels it's making you would find a elevated level of HCs being reported due to its colder heat range in comparison to a vehicle that has the appropriately matched plugs for its power levels. The presence of more porcelain vs less (I'm pretty sure that's what it was, I may have it backwards) on the plug is doing a better job at drawing away heat from the combustion chamber doing a better job at keeping it cooler in result lowering the amount of HC output at the tailpipe. HCs are indicative of misfires and the less you have usually the better fuel economy you get. Maybe I explained it in an incorrect wording, but you get the idea anyway.

Also, HCs are not measured as fuel, that's measured as CO (raw fuel) on the analyzer just to clarify in case you confused the two.

YET. They will be soon, however, confirmed as of today per my phone call to them. ;)

Clarification please? Did jba or DT tell you that their shorties with carbEO will be re-released soon?

If I was i CO and had the remote possibility of moving to CA.... I would get long tubes (or EL) headers and keep the stock exhaust manifolds intact. Slap the stocks back on if you come back to CA.

Yeah, I’m not touching or cutting up the stock exhaust.

JBA can piss off. They abandoned us and left us to die. Doug Thorley will be picking up what JBA dropped and be the new provider for CARB compliant shorty headers. They are just waiting for the state to approve their full generation extension to allow the 2012-2015 SAI provision on the shortys for compliancy.

If I was not in CA I would go LT for sure. Its not irreversible as you can always put in your stock ones. They connect to factory Y if you want that. If you replace you can keep the factory Y as well. cutting or not it can all be reversed. The shorty's when they come from now DT will be carb compliment so if you cut them up they still have the factory cats so your good to go.

Lets see how long it takes to make them CA legal. I tried 2 different places to get them this past week and all failed. I put in an order last night to auto anything but that likely is going to get canceled as well. (unless they have mystery ones laying around).

yah hasn't been canceled yet. Maybe they had a hoard of them. All other places say discontinued and had my order canceled. If i get it cool if not prob better to have DT since it will be supported still.

yah figured as much. I do not have high hopes but it was worth a shot. JBA needs to figure it out because a ton of shops still "sell" it. Doesn't seem like it's being updated anywhere.
