Help me decide on bumper cap color

I've got a Silver Sky Metallic SR5 with the chrome rear bumper caps. I'd like to eventually replace them. Matte black are cheaper and since I'm blacking out my badges and the grille frame, and already have black nerf bars maybe that would work, but it seems to work better if you have black fender flares as well. But then again maybe matching the paint would work better. Any silver sky metallics out there with black or matching bumper caps?

 

Just try out the black caps. If you don’t like it, color match it.

 

The touch up paint is pretty thin. It took me five coats to get a decent layer built up on a fix to the color matched bumper caps on my Sport. I'd just go with some Derp and call it good. I am sort of thinking about that myself.

 

I'm going to bare my ignorance here. What is Derp?

 

Leave 'em chrome till you break one.

Then pick the replacement.

 

I sanded mine down and used black bed liner. Turned out nice IMO.

 

I just plasti dipped my SR5 chrome bumpers black. Cheap, easy and removeable.

 

I feel like I read somewhere that plastidip doesn't stick well to chrome. Any issues?

 

No issues at all. Been on since last June and still looks new.

 

I vote you make bands top to bottom in red, yellow and orange

 

I got matte black caps for mine but i have not gotten them on yet. I think black will look great. I have a cement sr5 and I've blacked up the emblems and grille. I think it would look good on silver too.

 

Don’t plastic dip them... unless you plan on building the rest of your truck from a bunch of crap at PepBoys and Advanced. That stuff is all garbage. Peals off and will not last. Do yourself a favor... do it right! Either leave them chrome, or sell the chrome ones and get a painted set (OEM) from someone on here or a dealer.

 

What's amusing about that is that I was just working on a mockup of what I want to do to the front. I'm considering plastidipping the chrome grille frame and adding some small color accents. Here's my mockup:

They come color matched if you like. I can 100% recommend them. If you decide you want chrome back take them back off. Simple easy fix...

Derp works like a champ.

 

I got black bumper corners off ebay. I know they are knock offs but they actually looked ok when they came. I really don't mind they are cheap. Less to worry if someone dings one. They were about $60 I think. It got too cold to pull at the plastics so I'm waiting for a warmer day to pop them on.

 

Plasti dip lasts and looks good if you apply it right. I just took off the plasti dip on my Audi grill after 3 years to turn the car in. Made a world of difference looks-wise, protected the grill and came off in 10 mins with goo gone and a pressure washer. It still looked as good as the day I put it on.
Just because you don’t know how to apply plasti dip correctly doesn’t mean it’s crap.
