3rd Party Alignment

I want to get an alignment at a Firestone shop rather than the dealer but I have read in TSB 0119-10 that you have to calibrate the yaw rate and steering angle sensor after any alignment. Does anyone have experience with this and does it really need to happen for an alignment w/o any part changes? AAlso, would a 3rd party shop have the capability or is it a dealer only deal?

I had new tires installed and the truck re-aligned at a shop that one of the TacomaWorld members manages. Didn't have any problems whatsoever. Dave may chime in.

 

unless you have something new on your truck that i dont know of
our trunks dont have that sensor

 

Ummmm I thought all 2nd gens had the YAW sensor.....

 

The TSB indcates they are there and I believe that is what the VSC system uses to know what direction you are actually going vs. what direction you should be going!

dont worry about it i do alignments on our trunks all day and
never had pro you may be reading to much into this youll be fine

 

LOL, Dave it took you a whole 8 minutes to chime in after me. Slacking off today???? Did you guys end up opening yesterday? I didn't get shoveled out till around 2 and my wife was off from work so I didn't end up doing anything.

I wouldn't worry unless you're aligning it post-accident or something. Any adjustment made is going to be pretty tiny.

 

FYI for you VSC guys. I recently had my alignment done and the tech who did the alignment did not 0 out my VSC settings. My truck is now having MAJOR MAJOR issues and the VSC is now no longer registering. Toyota is being lame because I had a lift but they are now saying its cause of the lift, even though there were no issues until the alignment. If you do not 0 out the sensor it can cause major issues when driving windy back roads as we almost found out the hard way. Considering toyota is required to do this I would suggest you have them do it. You can also do it yourself if you look for the info on this forum.

 

Cannot adjust the VSC by yourself. It's a dealer only thing.

 

thats funny i have the pdf that tells you how to reset the vsc. if a dealer can do it you can do it.............be more than happy to email it to you if you need it still.

 

I've seen the procedure somewhere - maybe on the TSB that prompted this thread. IIRC, it looks like a real PITA.
