    I was just about to ask this question. I have a pair of Baofengs UV-5r's programmed for the FRS (family radio service) for now until I have time to dig into the HAM licensing: https://www.hamradio.me/charts/frs-uhf-radio-frequencies.html
    It's 1/2 watt so the range is limited to less than a mile. I just ordered longer Nagoya whip antennas.

    You shouldn’t need. Fill up before hitting trail. Don’t think I even used 1/2 tank. I’ll have a 4 gallon Rotopax in case anyone happens to need.
