Looking for opinions on idle control settings.
I got some solid advice from @TermLimits and just curious as to what everyone found to be suitable for their 3rd gen Autos.

A guy I was talking to said lowering the values to a more reasonable range helps smooth out low RPM driving, betters fuel economy, and "theoretically" helps out the ol valve train a bit.

So, how do you adjust the idle in these trucks. I would have assumed that you could not.

Which maps are which? Same order as on the left?

I'm confused about why there are 6 different maps for cold, hot, warm but they all have the same ECT values. That's engine coolant temp, right? Maybe the "start" part means it applies based on what the temps are at startup and these basis only apply for some short amount of time or until a condition is met?

They are in order. Top to bottom.
    Toyota Logic isn't necessarily "Logical"
Perhaps each map is bases upon actual outside temp then uses the corresponding ECT maps based on that?
    <32*= Cold
    >32 but <45* is Warm
    >45 but <75* is Hot

    Something to that effect.

I didn't think of that idea. I assumed the temp values were °C, but for no reason other than metric system. Are there any other temp related maps that use °F? What would the "65504" cell mean?

    Edit:. Also, wouldn't those break points be 16, 48 & 80?

Some logging of engine speed, ECT, ambient/oat and any other temp based parameters that may be useful might give clues or narrow things down

I only adjusted the cold start maps. At a full stop it will now idle at about 1,100prm. Any motion and the revs drop down to something more normal. About 800 to 900. Just enough to go slow around the house and work parking lot.

1100 seems high to me. But I have no idea what ideal idle is for these trucks. I think mine idles at 950 ish.

    Cold or hot?

Cold, the Stock map for mine could go as high as 1,600. Hot, a nice and perfect 600.

The engine temp. Not weather. Cold start and hot idle.

Gotcha, hot idle. Not cold start. Cold start is a temporary condition. Once engine warms up and settles down, that is the idle setting for most cars. Again, I have no familiarity with this system. I assume these menus are in the vehicles menu system. Easy to find.

No. We are talking about options in the vF Tune software to edit maps. A few cold start idle maps are available to edit.
