My ocd is really bothered by the ground wire being red...yes I know polarity will be reversed depending on solid/flux core wire.

    Regardless, the crimps look stellar.

You can make a working Hydraulic Crimper with stuff laying about the shop and a Purchase of one of those crimp tools you use a hammer with in the field .I paid less then $20.00.

A spare bottle jack and misc steel to make a frame .

Pictures when I wonder out into the Shop if I manage to find the thing.

I crimped many Lugs over the years. The amount of pressure determined the depth of the crimp.

Till I broke down and spent $300.00 plus on a mechanical one

unless your coworker is an idiot... then he steals the green ground, off a 120v outlet, flops it to hot leg With out putting some marking tape on it to denote the change

Because his exact words "Electricity don't care what color the wire is"

I have this with a decent selection of dies.

    images.jpg

Burndy MD6 6 ton crimper with fixed 0 and D die.

Then I got tired of wearing my shoulder out, try crimping 4/0 to 4/0 copper H taps with this... So I went and bought this little item on a payroll deduction.

Alright, I'm potentially opening a can of worms here given my previous three days of googling...fuck it though. I'm Chevy 63 swapping my Tacoma and trying to determine what the correct shackle angle should be

I think the first and most important step is to put this question in the right thread... :notsure:

Had a hot job pop up. Customer was heading out on a 2 week camper vaca. Wanted battery box to hold 2 deep cycle gell cells.

Couldn't talk him into iron, he was set on aluminum. Of course my argon can was empty. Beat feet to Air Gas. They gave me a can at a great price.

Went back and MIG welded this up. I think it turned out pretty good. I think it turned out pretty good. I don't see myself needing to TIG weld aluminum.PXL_20210316_220121978.jpg PXL_20210316_220129374.jpg PXL_20210316_220157468.jpg PXL_20210316_220636900.jpg PXL_20210316_220643813.jpg PXL_20210316_220851224.jpg

Just curious what gauge wire you used for the replacement ground. Have you noticed an improvement in the welds?

    Check Build thread
Wrong thread forsure, but you’ll want roughly 45 degree at ride height

If they are new springs then compensate for the springs to break in and drop ride height which will affect the shackle angle.

Best to take the leaf pack apart and cycle the main leaf to figure out bump also. At full droop you DO NOT want the shackle angle to be “inverted”. The more the shackle angle is closer to the horizontal position, the more leverage it puts on the spring pack theoretically making it a “softer ride”. A lot of rock crawler guys do this budget swap.

    ...now back to welding
