Okay Guys n Gals, I'm hoping that someone out here has suggestions on making more room available in the drivers seat. For some background, I'm a whopping 6'10 and I opted for the Tacoma over the Tundra. I know the Tundra has considerably more space for a guy of my stature, but fullsize trucks are just too wide to really enjoy Oregon OHV trails. With all this being said, I still love my truck even though I'm forced to drive it like a go kart.

Does anyone have input or suggestions on making more leg space available? I have been searching for a seat delete kit to eliminate the rear driver side seat, but haven't seen anything. I've heard talk of some seat mods, but it all seems like they raise the seat instead of lower or push it back. Open to suggestions, I'm not above taking it to a place that modifies vehicles for disabled drivers, but I figure there's a wealth of knowledge here to draw from first.

Please let me know what you think about the situation and any ideas you can think of to help me enjoy my Yota ownership even more.

Almost exactly how I fit in the Taco, only my knees straddle the steering wheel. I definitely feel like I've been mugged every time I get in and out of it.

Remove the Driver's seat. Sit in back seat.

Like Cadet Hightower did in the 1st Police Academy movie..................

Seriously, check the steering wheel. Some models have a tilt/telescoping wheel. Some adjustment maybe available.

I’m more surprised you have the headroom. I’m only 6’2 and I might have a few inches between my head and the roof of the truck.

Well to be fair, I don't have room in any vehicle even most full size trucks. The Tundra CrewMax and Nissan Titan have the closest amount of room to being considered comfortable, but I'm just too big for anything. I came over from a 300C, I had legroom but no head room

I made sure not to get the sunroof and set my seat to the lowest setting. I have had zero issues with headroom, probably has something to do with my 40" inseam though...

Eesh, I'm 6'3 and wouldn't want to be any taller.

I would suggest looking into aftermarket seats that may be lower profile - thinner back and seat cushions. Unfortunately there's not a lot of steering wheel adjustment. I think I have seen some mods for this, but it doesn't change how much adjustment you get, only where the steering wheel ends up by adding length to the column.

I was hoping to just find some sort of bracket modification to extend or move the seat rails back 3-6" I plan on deleting the rear driver side seat entirely, as no one could ever fit behind me.

That's what I was thinking to make the seat brackets longer to sit further back but that brings up another issue. Your B pillar seat belt would sit far in front of you? Depending how far back you sit it might not even touch you while driving...

I made this suggestion to another member recently but he is still hoping that some extended rails for a 4Runner will work.
Looking at how the floor mounted rails connect to the feet it would be possible to drill out the rivets and use a piece of 1/8” x 3/4” flat stock to reconnect the rails however far back on the feet you would want them. If it’s more than a few inches I would run the flat stock full length since you will be cantilevered over the back feet more. The seats will still slide but the range of operation will be shifted back. Aftermarket seat might lower you but unless you address the mounts you’ll still be crammed into the wheel. An upholstery shop should be able to do this or recommend a better option since they do the work and are the experts.

    ^^makes sense

You might have to get a seat with an integrated seatbelt

That's my exact thoughts with aftermarket seats, I won't gain anything by using the factory mount locations. I hadn't thought about reaching out to an upholstery shop to see if they could point me in the right direction though. I was thinking the same thing of using flat stock and modifying the mounting brackets to just push the whole factory assembly back.

Eh safety goes out the window when you force yourself into a vehicle like a clown car anyway. The lap belt should still keep me in the vehicle, can't be any less safe than driving half the clown cars I've owned previously

There is a deceptive amount of room in the Mini's. I drove a countryman for a few months when my boss was trying to sell me his.

    Yeah.

    OK, not an ideal solution.

But yeah, I'd be looking to fashion something up to move the seat back a bit. They just don't make vehicles for the extremes at either end of height.
