That's sad. Loneliness is definitely something con artists seek to target, as the hope of companionship can override a lot of gut instincts.

I think I've seen the statistic that 60% of Americans are 1 or 2 paychecks away from homelessness. That is a baffling statistic.

 

After having conversations with some of my friends today around what they did with their stim, I believe it. I've always had at least 6mos of living expenses in savings. Well, after college. In college I was broke broke. I had a deep fryer and would buy a $3 bag of potatoes and live off that for the week. In 2019 I got laid off from my job of 8 years which I had been in since I graduated. I was out of work for 4 months but didn't worry at all over that break and just enjoyed the free time. Spent a lot of time at the gym, worked on my side-hustle, got my wife pregnant, etc.

 

New to this thread. You guys should check out OPGN stock and do some quick DD, several catalysts in the pipeline including an earnings report and business update next week and possible FDA clearance on a piece of precision medical equipment they have developed. Lots of longs in this stock holding for good PR. Very cheap buy in right now in my amateur opinion. I was in for a few months and sold on the last pop on news, im back in at a higher average than I wished but pretty sure its a non-issue after next week.

There is alot of speculation about that, I haven't been able to find much online about it. I have seen some wild theories on StockTwits about the crazy price in 2016 but not sure any have any facts behind them. The Unyvero device they currently have is pretty advanced and is simply waiting on FDA approval for the cartridges it requires to do the testing. The company has said they are ready to fulfill orders as soon as its approved. Im curious to see how the earnings report and business update goes next week. The stock has also been manipulated pretty bad over the last few weeks.

 

I'm not at all surprised at the statistic.

Some people have the discipline to live well below their means, building a savings/rainy-day fund with the extra.

Most people don't, and ride near the edge of financial disaster no matter how much they make.

It's definitely much less stressful to follow @ThunderCookies path and have a long runway.

Practicing getting the Mrs pregnant is lots of fun, but gets rather expensive once you succeed.

Our kids are grown. I keep saying that I'll go thru-hike the Appalachian Trail if I get laid off, but that's not happened yet.

 

He's 10mos now. Grocery bill has gone up with formula and diapers but that's it so far for added expenses. I started a 529 college fund for him as well, which is where his Stim went this morning. Covid has probably helped us save money since we are always home and don't do much with him. We both have our vaccination and most of our family does now as well so as we come out of this pandemic I'm sure we will start spending more with/on him.

 

Wait 'til you see the grocery bill when he becomes a teenager and has his buddies over.

My kids are 6 and 8, but every day after school their friends come over and eat all my snacks... Cant wait till they are older and I have to put doors up to lock them out of the kitchen.

 

20 bucks makes 8 lunches if done right. Rice, chicken, pineapple, teriyaki sauce. My wife used to hate eating "leftovers" for lunch, now she requests me to make her teriyaki rice bowls weekly for lunches. But, it isn't always teriyaki sauce she uses.

 

Spicy ginger, sweet onion, soy, spicy honey... the list goes on. I think my fridge has an entire shelf of sauces.
