Stanley 109piece Mechanic Ratchet set - Deal or Not??

I'm in the market for a new ratchet. I originally had a really nice mechanic 200 piece set made by Husky. But some idiot(s) stole it. All i have left of it is my 1/2 ratchet which luckily i forgot to put back in its case. So i need a new set but after spending so much on chirstmas gifts i don't have much to spend. I'm thinking of this set by Stanley:

So my question is, are these a good deal? How decent is Stanley Ratchets? I'm no pro so i don't need to spend a fortune. just want it for basic duties around the home and car. which would you choose?...or would you even choose either? remember i'm strapped for cash and just need a decent set and get the best bang for my buck.

any input is appreciated.

 

what is the warranty? thats why I buy craftsman they have a good warranty but i doubt their tools are much better than a lot of other name brands.

 

If you're looking for a ratchet set, I like the first one. The second one looks more like just a starter tool set.

 

i have the same set from walmart, no problems for the 4 years ive been having them. i believe i got mine for $50 also, and im sure its a good deal since its from walmart

which one do you have?...the black chrome ratchet set or the red tool box set? if its the black chrome, how is the case?...heard alot about the sockets keep falling out.

 

Lifetime warranty.

 

Honestly, unless you are using them daily, you probably don't need the lifetime waranty. I agree the red tool box set is a starter set while the other is primarily all different types of ratchets. I have almost all Stanley's and have never had a problem.

note: Stanley does have a large range of qualities of tools, they have cheap ones and pretty darn good ones, depends on the tool.

 

If this is an addition to what you already have, I would go with the mechanics set. If you don't have a basic wrench and pliers set, then go with the other.

 

mainly just need a good ratchet set. but might end up getting both...even though i already have other tools and boxes, the stanley box would be nice to keep in the bed of my truck to hold other tools i may need on the road. again not pro, but would be nice to have it there. and since its only $50, it it gets stolen like my husky set, it won't be so hard on my wallet.
but i still don't know. i mean if i get both its only $100 for basically two ratchet sets and a nice box and some basic hand tools.

 

X2, if not replace it, I'd have an extra on hand incase it did fail.

 

^ This... not till it breaks though. I would go after the top set if it were me though.

 

Go with Craftsmen. more expensive but you'll only buy it once. Anything breaks, take it back to SEARS for free replacement!!

 

i have the black chrome set. sockets in my set stay in their place pretty tight

harbor freight tools give the same warranty

 

Yeah, if you buy it only to replace it doesn't make much sense. If you have an extra on hand then that might be more reasonable. I would think the cost of buying one Craftsman ratchet, you could probably get a whole set for not much more, relatively speaking.

 

Trouble with most of the tools today is they are made in China.
Even Craftsman!
I refuse to buy them.

Rather go to an auction and buy the old tools.

 

Craftsman are made in China too? I thought they were made in America. Gee whizzzzzz

 

Just check the labels.
I was really disappointed in those power tools wih "Made in China" on the tags.

 

Depends on the tool from them. If you look at the packaging it will tell you where its made. Most of the ones I have are made in the USA.

As for Stanley tools. I have a few and have never had an issue with them. I will say that the Stanley "Dental Pick" set is AWESOME! Great handles and the pick ends don't bend
