URD and OVT - did not know OVT was not complete - his post don't indicate he was waiting on parts or failure to launch - that is not good because his shifting logic and .vft software is excellent. Sounded like he decided to go with his twin turbo experiment and leave the SC to URD and Magnuson. Did read a post that Pro Charger was now in the market. For me Magnuson was the only true alternative that was/is using the only Tuner Software (at the time) that had cracked the Gen3 ECU.

 

We aren't waiting on parts on the TT setup we are changing a few parts and had to make a more robust fuel pump controller, which all of you guys with Mag SCs who want more power in the future will benefit from.
But, like everything else going on in the world, there are severe microchip shortages, so you want something done fast, it can't be done right now.

If Mat starts selling a fuel pump controller and custom tune for the Maggie kit, I will convert to the religion of his choosing.

 

An "open" tuning would be a great thing.

 

While we have no interest in selling open tuned maps, we will have training material for how to properly tune for FI.

 

@OVTune - amateur question. Did the TSB (TSB-0092-20) update require you or Mag. to revisit much? I know the rumor is Toyota possibly hijacked what you had discovered/developed originally with all stock trucks. (whether true or not, highly entertaining and flattering even though they didn't want to work with you)

Just trying to ascertain if a truck arrives (as mine will shortly) with fully updated ECU, will the M/SC require a tune that isn't even out yet?

All of the core components of the stock tune didn't really change. (VVT, fueling, throttle, etc). So it wasn't a major change vs our standard tunes. What did change more than the tables is the background logic (the code) that calculates what to do with table values.

For example on 04B31 (this is an example, not reality!) The ECU Shift Table A, Shift Table B, and torque value C is calculated like " (A+B)C = D"
But on 04B33, the code has changed so it could instead be "(A+B)(C+100)=D"

The tables won't change at all, in these cases.



What Magnuson changed or not I have no idea. I do not colloborate with them on tuning. They use vF Tuner just like you guys do.

 

Did any of you new installers get tune version 8 yet from Magnuson. Last I talked to them they were working on a new tune with some performance improvements.

when I got a response about my CARB cert I was told April for Version 8.

Got my CARB cert (sticker actually) and went to the web page listed on the instructions - funny enough California has not update their own data base so the EO# on the CARB Sticker does not exists (as of last week).

 

call the Magnuson Tech Support number on their web page (not the sales people) - the Tech people will know.

 

Maybe there is a potential business relationship between Magnuson and OV with Magnuson "reselling" vF Tuner in cooperation with OVTune to provide the Magnuson base tune that Magnuson owners could modify. Magnuson could sell the "open" tune/credits as an add.

 

Maybe. I’m sure there are complicated considerations. The maggy is a direct competitor to OV’s TT setup, so it’s possible that’s a conflict of interest. Who knows.

 

Agreed, nobody knows the issues, but they are already co-operating. If Magnuson only sold to licensed Mag customers or sold the license, but OVTune administered (for X percent of license).

The point is that there are options. I seem to recall that the tuning software *actually* originates with yet another party. But of course the tunes (Mat's work) do not. Or maybe I got that wrong.....

 

We created the tuning software in house. Its 100% owned / developed by us. Nobody else.
That same software is supplied to magnuson and multiple other companies.
they create their tune from it, and distribute to you guys.

There has been a lot of confusion about this. This year we plan to completely separate vF Tuner and OVTune as two distinctly different entities..

 

Very smart. Have a platform you can Sell/License to others that doesn't directly come from their competition.

 

That confusion may stem from your (prior?) life as a Ecutek Master tuner.......
