I ordered the Westcott Designs front lift kit for my TRD Pro. I'm currently trying to decide what to do for the rear. It seems people don't like the stock leaf pack so I'm wondering if the better route to take is replace the whole leaf pack (and if so which leaf pack to go with) or just go with an add a leaf (and if so which add a leaf to go with).

It seems like the labor involved with replacing the entire leaf pack isnt that much more effort then adding a leaf so for the added cost it might be worth just replacing it entirely .

I went with a full leaf pack (OME Dakar medium) because I wanted to increase the ride height without increasing the spring rate. Since I’ve never seen spring rate information published for leaf springs (possibly because it’s not as simple as a single number), I’m not entirely sure I accomplished the goal, however qualitatively it doesn’t seem too stiff post installation.

If one were to just add a leaf to the rear to get the truck to be level with the Westcott designs up front Is there a certain one that someone with first hand knowledge can recommend ? I would think to add a leaf would be the way to go to keep the system as close to stock as possible.

It depends on what you mean by “close to stock”. With an AAL you are keeping the stock leaves, but you are changing the spring rate and thus also the ride height. With a full leaf pack you are (with the correct leaf pack) maintaining the spring rate while increasing the ride height. Either way you look at it, you are not stock anymore.

So then which is the better way to go ?
add a leaf or replace the whole Leaf pack to acquire the desired height.....

Goals..... higher than the stock Pro with minimal change to the ride quality

If you want similar/same ride quality and a lift, your best option would be to swap the leaf pack. doing an AAL will change the spring rate, payload, hauling cap, and thus the ride quality.

I’m guessing you would prefer a full leaf pack then. It will increase the ride height by having a deeper arch rather than by being stiffer. Note that I think most (all) full leaf packs are designed to lift 2+”.

Ok thats good info as i dont have any experience with any of this..... is there a certain Leaf pack that you would recommend or that you know of that others have used and have had good success with the Westcott kit ?

    Thanks

icon rxt option 1, deaver j66, OME Light duty are gonna be the popular ones

Rough country, ironman 4x4, general spring and a few other companies also make leaf spring packs, but aren't nearly as popular on this forum. Whether that's because of false sense of superiority, quality issues, price, or whatever else, IDK.

I initially added a progressive aal, which is like a mini leaf pack that is added to the stock leaf pack. Mine was from icon but wheelers sells the same thing for a little cheaper. I kept the over load spring in which gave me a 1.5” lift. Keeping the overload out would give you .5 less height and level the truck.

I switched that up took out the progressive aal and stock pack and switched to a icon rxt leaf pack set at option 1. That gave me 1.5” lift in back. After adding the wescott kit I’ll probably switch to option 2 on the pack which will give me 2”....hope this helps

I have a 2018 Pro and needed something to go with a 1.5" lift in the front. I decided I would fab my own AAL using a stock leaf pack from a low mileage 2019 Pro. Used to see this all the time in the Jeep XJ world, known as the bastard pack or franken-pack. I used the main leafs, cut off the bushings to length, drilled holes for the stock leaf pads, and installed them as the 3rd leaf. Kept all the other stock leafs, including the overload. I got a about 1" of lift in the rear for a total of .75" of rake. I have an ARE CX-HD with internal frame and HD load bars, aluminum windoors, and driver side toolbox loaded with recovery gear. In total, probably 275-300 lbs.

I definitely like the ride better. It is similar to stock but a little more sure footed and less body roll. I had a helluva time drilling through spring steel, used two 1/2" drill bits . This isn't for everyone, but I enjoy tinkering and experimenting a bit. Haven't seen another 3rd Gen with a bastard pack, so I gave it a shot. I still have to put my decked drawers and tools back in, hoping I still have some rake. If not I'll get to work on another set of leafs to add.

Hey... just joined. This post prompted me to do it lol. I'm in the same boat as you. Just ordered the Westcott Fox 2.5 lift for the front and the rear. Now I'm still figuring out if I go with AAL or OME heavy leaf pack. I've got about 500 pounds on the back end of it right now, with another 300 to go. I've been racking my brain on how much its sagging now vs. what just the OME heavy leafs will do vs. the leafs + the westcott 1 inch-inch-more-on-the-back vs. what its going to be like after adding more weight. ffs.... someone tell me what to do :p

ICON RXT leaf pack or Deaver leaf pack.

    OME will sag and squeak.

AAL is a bandaid, but works.
