So not to make light of your situation, but when you hit the dealer and they ask what happen, just sing this song. the beat is do wa diddy by manfred man. The lyrics are slightly modified by me.

There she was just a cruisin' down the street, singin'
'Bing, bang, bing bong...... boom bam bing'
Snappin' her axles and shufflin' to a stop, singin'
'Bing bang bing bong...... boom bam bing'
    She locked up (Locked up)
She started to grind (started to grind)
She locked up, started to grind
And I nearly lost my mind
Before I knew it she was towed to the shop, singin'
'Bing bang bing bong...... boom bam bing'
Wringing' my hand just as angry as can be, singin'
'Bing bang bing bong...... boom bam bing'
    I walked out (Walked out)
    the shop door (shop door)
I walked out the shop door
and was pissed a whole lot more
    singing
'Bing bang, bing bong...... boom bam bing'

I don’t buy the whole “engaging on concrete” thing. There’s all sorts of parts between those gears and the wheels but yet the case explodes like a hand grenade was in it?

Something was installed wrong or defective, period.

The one I was thinking of does lots of jeeps maybe outlaw or patriot?

I am wondering if an NDA was required as a condition of the (free) fix?

In 2wd typically only the spider gears and side gears are turning inside the carrier because the driver side CV is directly connected to its side gear and the resistance to rotation in the side and spider gears is much less than the resistance to free wheel the ring, pinion, driveshaft, etc. so the differential gears free spin. They are unconnected to any tractive load.

The transfer case also has a gerotor pump.

Nah, don’t sweat it this is not on you if things happened as you described, the TC is not made of glass.
There are warnings in the OM on operating in dry pavement surfaces, but that is mainly because some people will totally disregard all cautionary prudence and throw caution to the wind.

That being said, driving in the rain is not technically a dry surface, pavement can be slippery when wet, so if you feel the need, the need for 4ON4, that may be a safer outlet.

    Good luck

It's like every great epic this blew up thread started the OP never comes back to give us closure.

Toyota must have had the lawyers hit him with an NDA, a fix, 24 pack of Bud Light and a sack of gum balls as a goodwill gesture
