I have been searching but posts seem to be confusing 6cyl and 4cyl transmissions and fluid types. I am just looking to see what folks with the 2.7L auto are using for fluid in their trans and how much of it. I greatly thank anyone who helps in advance.

13 quarts for the whole shebang, around 3.5-4 for a drain and refill

I just did a pan drop/clean and filter replacement and refill a few days ago. Took about 6 quarts to do that little exercise so in other words you cant get all the fluid out of the pan with just a drain and refill

Drain and fill with Toyota Type IV at 60k miles. Four quarts out. Four back in. Will do again at 90k.

Hey. I had a quick dump question. I have 99 tacoma pre runner 2.7l 4 cylinder. I am trying to fix a leak on the transmission oil pan. I can not find the dip stick for the transmission oil. I have seen countless youtube videos for the location, but on mine it is not located from what I have seen on the videos. Also, the dealer told me I did not need to change the filter on the transmission oil pan. He said to just to clean it with brake cleaner. Anyone know if thats true? Thanks in advance.

So if you cant find it from the top get under the truck and you should see the tube go into the transmission. Follow that tube up and you should find the dip stick. Here is a pic of the pan so you can find the tube. https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/...iMmYe2tmfeKpY5vRfMFf3uAk07WjIBEwaAqp5EALw_wcB

So far as replacing the filter. I did but it was not expensive and came as a kit.

I should caveat all of this is based on automatic trans. Manual trans I have no idea.

    Hi,

I'm doing the A/T Fluid change on my mom's truck. It's a 2013 2.7 2WD, 4-speed and was surprised her truck still has a dipstick for the transmission. Anyways, I have a 2 questions:

    1. I noticed on the dipstick it says something like "No need to change fluid under normal driving conditions". My mom drives that truck like grandma, only uses it to go to work and never pushes it, she even gets mad when people need it to load stuff lol however, she has put 150,000 miles on it already and has never done a fluid change.

    2. I can't seem to find a pan gasket/seal for her truck. Do these types of trucks don't use that part?
I did some research and couldn't see any on the Toyota Parts Diagrams online but found a Fel-Pro in Autozone that supposedly fits her transmission pan (19 bolts, not 20). I believe the 20 bolt pans are for 5 speeders.
The part number is Fel-Pro TOS18685 SKU #137697 in Autozone.

I got the part but was expecting it to be rubber like the valve cover gaskets but it's more like a flat paper/cardboard thin gasket with holes for the bolts.

Can anybody clear this issue for me? Thanks.

I would do what post #10 suggests, but if the truck has been babied the bulletproof 4 speed auto should last a LONG time on the original fluid. Simple drain and fill won’t hurt anything

Any one have torque specs for 2013 2tr fe 2.7 4x4 a340f transmission pan bolts? Also, OE link to filter and gasket would be greatly appreciated.

I just did a drain & refill on my 2013 Taco Base model 2wd with the 2.7ltr & 4 speed automatic transmission. I went to the local Toyota dealership & bought 4 qts of the Toyota T-IV fluid for about $35 . I have just hit 60K miles. The Toyota tech said "just drain & refill, you don't need to change the filter unless you really want to". I don't pull anything & don't beat on her all the time, lol. I'm also flushing the coolant with Toyota's red concentrated antifreeze. I always use distilled water even to flush it instead of city water. I've been a marine diesel technician for over 30 years & that's how we've always done it. I've seen what non distilled water can do to a cooling system. I've already sucked out the power steering & brake fluids (bled brakes starting with the left rear) & refilled with new (DOT 4 for those racing days!) I still need to do the limited slip diff & clean the throttle body. Take care of your Taco & she'll take care of you!!

This is an interesting article considering that I've been thinking about adding new ATF to my recently purchased '14 Taco with 135,000 miles on it. I thought it would be tough for me to first drain and then try to find the place to add the fluid. I looked on the side of the tranny, an auto, and could not find the 24mm plug to remove and pump in new fluid. Hint: find the plug before you drain the reservoir. No fun trying to drive with no fluid! Well, I had a local garage haul the truck away for the refill procedure and they came and took it away. I remember what the fluid looked like before I drained it. It was PURPLE! It didn't register on me that this was some special stuff with a good reputation. I had the garage put in the "correct" stuff and when I drove away, the truck seemed noisier that before the draining. Prior to the drain, I had noticed that truck was super quiet and smooth as it shifted to the higher range. With the new stuff, it's just a bit "jerkier" that the stuff that was in it at first. I have the old oil, do I put it back in?, do I buy some Royal Purple ATF, do I wait and see if it smoothes out? I don't know what the garage put in, should I inquire?
    It's clear something has changed.
