This is very specific question and so maybe no answers.
I plan to get 255/85 R16 tires for my 2011 2nd Gen Tacoma. Looking at Super Swamper 255/85R16 Tire, TrXus MT Radial - RXM-04R. Also looking at Maxxis Bighorn Off Road/Mud Terrain MT-762.
Does anyone here have experience with either one they are willing to share?
    If so, thank you!

On the home page there is a section titled "wheels and Tires", you may get a quicker answer there. Thx

Back when I had my last 4x4 truck (mid 90's) I ran the swamper radial for a bit. Noisy, bumpy, loud, fast wearing tire that handles like crap. Had them less than a year and went to Mud TA's. They were not very good in the mud as I recall and went flat for no reason. Needless to say I am not a fan. Maybe they are better now, but those were so viciously bad handling that I never even considered them this time around. I am running BFG KM3's in a 255/85r16. Happy as a could be. Bit noisier than I had hoped from reviews but they drive nice, no MPG loss and they dig!

Thank you. I'm sure the BFGs do well. But going to a 33" I'm maxxing out the stock gearing and so looking for a lighter tire. The BFGs are 7 pounds heavier than the two tire I'm considering. Seven pounds doesn't seem like a lot, but it's rotational weight.
I appreciate your words of caution WRT the Swampers.

For what its worth, I did not change gearing. Not much difference in performance-as I said did not loose any MPG. Maybe a tad slower off the line. It is a lot of extra weight, but even towing I have not been unhappy. But, as with all things; one man's gold is another mans dirt...

I appreciate your info. The truck is generally low mileage and used mostly on the road. I need the tires for Summer off road and Fall and Winter hunting. I've looked into two sets of rims/tires and the math doesn't support it. I pull a trailer in the Summer and Fall. I don't think the additional 7 lbs of rotational weight would be a showstopper. However, I'm trying to gain little optimizations here and there.
I have considered going big with 35s" or larger, a new lift, a lot of cutting and trimming, and re-gearing. That is not in my financial plan right now.
So I think I don't need as much goodness as is in the the BFGs if I'm going to stay with 255/85 r16.

Actually, tire weight is a big issue, and tires in this size vary wildly. Even with 4:56 gears, you will really feel the difference that 7-8 pounds makes. Remember it is X4 so that is 28-32 pounds. Both the Wildpeak and the BFG are heavy. If you want an aggressive tire that is light and works well on these trucks consider this one: https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/dick-...ountry-72630-90000024326/_/R-BGXJ-90000024326

This tire is made by Cooper and has a similar tread to the Cooper STT Pro, but it has a softer sidewall which works great on lighter vehicles like the Tacoma. It weighs just 50 lbs, which comes in 8lbs lighter than the Cooper STT Maxx! Note that the STT Pro is not available in this size.

Another good tire is the Yokohama Geolander M/T G003. It runs tall at 33.2" which is 1/2" taller than most "33s". This tire weighs in at 55lbs, so still lighter than most

I’ve got a set of the super swamper pizza cutters. They are a little loud but they last a long time and I like em. Work great off-road. They are lighter compared to other tires too, I may get another set when these finally do wear out.

I had a set of Swampers on another truck and I really liked them. They are noisy, but handled as good as any mud tire on road. They did perform well in mud, although like any mud tire, you have to spin them to clear them. I will say this about all these mud tires though, the OP lives in Colorado and mud tires can be scary bad on ice or packed snow. If I ran any of these tires where winter conditions are prevalent, I would center sipe the tires with a razor siper. I spent 35 years in the PNW, and even though we had plenty of mud, I wouldn't run any of them without siping. People love the look of mud tires, but they don't look as cool on a truck that is upside down in the ditch.

I've run Super Swampers before (albeit they were TSL grooved to a similar pattern as the TruXuS) and I still have a set stacked in the yard for crawler use. I would pass on them unless your truck is off-road only. They perform terribly in all forms of snow. There's a reason you rarely if ever see any interco tires on the road in CO.

Have you considered the Cooper STT? I know many people happy with theirs. @lambo @eon_blue
