Was washing the truck the other day and noticed some small rust spots right next to the door sill protector, almost underneath the weatherstripping. My best guess is from salt and grime just sitting there over time.

Has anyone removed the factory door sill protectors before? Are they glued on or held on with clips? I'll probably try to sand the area lightly and touch up paint

Thanks, I didn't want to try too hard on them if they were glued down and risk breaking it to pieces.

Just reviewed the TSB, looks like its adhesive so will need a new protector if removed. I'll make an appt with the dealer to see what they can do with the TSB since im a little out of warranty

Are you talking about the part that says Tacoma in the picture? Those are stickers with adhesive.

If it’s still under base warranty, there is a TSB on this issue and it will be covered under warranty. I had mine repainted

Yes, the door sill protector. The one above that is the scuff plate, i believe

Ran into this recently. I left it all winter. My extended warranty doesn't cover rust and the one that does expired 2 years ago. The dealership quoted me $435 to fix it on both of my front door sills. I'll probably just fix it myself and get some door sill protectors.

I have door sill protectors but it seems to creep right around it, its a very very small spot on mine, but if i've learned anything about rust is that its a damn virus, never goes away unless treated properly

When I asked the dealership about the TSB from the body shop, they didn't seem like they knew about the TSB and so I don't think the body shop was going to do anything more than just fix the rust. I'm thinking some rust reformer after sanding, touch-up paint, and some door sill protectors to hide my non-professional work.

Got around to snapping a few pics. You can see it's not too bad, but the cancer has started...

Finally got around to having the dealer look at the rust spots. They acknowledged that it shouldn't be rusting that soon esp since it's clear that it's taken care of well. Even my frame has less rust than that spot! So they took pics of it with the weather stripping off and submitted to corporate for approval to fix. Will update when I hear back
