I run basic 4-link chains on mine, it does make a difference but sometimes during an icy winter I wish I'd spent the extra $$ for the V-bar 2 link chains instead. So I just add weight to the 3pt so they dig in better

I haven't needed any......yet. I agree with @Noelie84 with the V-bar 2 link, the more contact with the ground and less in your tread the better

I tried my local tractor dealer and they wanted like $400. So I looked up the size I needed and ordered them on Amazon for $150

Well my rears are just 31x13.50-15's, so I just use a set of Peerless truck chains. :notsure:

@ColoradoTJ a friend of mine text me a couple months ago asking if I wanted to sell my Duramax, I said no. He was looking for something to pull his enclosed lawn mower trailer, I'd say it's around 16'. I saw him at the store yesterday driving a truck that looked like yours but it was gas. I ask how he liked it, he said "I hate it, it gets 6-8 mpg pulling and is underpowered, I'm looking for a diesel". I didn't ask what size engine was in it.

Side note, my dad had an '03 four door Chevrolet gas that was geared 4:10 and it got 11 on a good day not pulling anything.

Yep, he got the 6.0 slow and most likely the 3.73 gears. Need the 6.0/4.10 setup, intake and full exhaust to get any kind of mileage out of those trucks...not that it will be great anyway. You are what, 1200' of elevation in NC? Imagine 7500'..... I would have a supercharger on that bad boy.

Tell your friend about the CP4's in GM 2011-2016, Ford 2011-2021, Ram 2019-2020. If he runs a good lift pump and fuel additive, probably get some good mileage out of the IP/CR system. GM 2017 and newer went to a Denso HP4 fuel system that is far superior to the Bosch systems.

My Ram gets around 13 unloaded on winter blend and around 15 on summer blend gas, and towing mpg varies pretty wildly depending on what I'm towing, but when I've been hauling gravel it's been 14k at a minimum (sometimes as much as over 17k when the guy running the loader isn't paying attention) and I've averaged 8-9 with that, including idle time at the quarry and where I'm unloading. Hauling an enclosed 16' trailer when we were moving my grandparents netted about 10-11 on the secondary roads but dropped me down to around 8-9 again once we hit the highway and I was pulling a big parachute at 75mph. :notsure:
I've got the smaller hemi, the 5.7, rather than the 6.4 with the cylinder magic that gets you better mileage when you're just cruising. It does pretty well for a gasser, and it works great for plowing, but for towing I'd like the diesel.
Of course, when I keep it within the factory-recommended limit of 11,400 it tows perfectly. But at 17k it takes while to get the load moving. Once it's moving, zero problems. But you're looking at 8-10 seconds to get through an intersection from a dead stop, lol.

We are less than 1,000 feet, I can't imagine being at 7,500'. Hopefully he knows what to look out for, his dad is a mechanic for Deere and knows a lot about the emission troubles, hopefully he knows about the injection pump problems as well. I'll send him a message to make sure

I get 16 around town, close to 20 on the highway in our '03 Duramax, about 11-12 pulling our camper or gooseneck loaded (both are close to 10K loaded).

You plan on doing the lifter upgrade in the 5.7L?

    That MPG isn't bad considering...

I'm not telling this to make fun of anyone, we all make mistakes.....it is funny though.

Yesterday when my buddy was over he got to talking about a mutual friend of ours who owns his own equipment service. My buddy borrowed a backhoe from him a few years ago that had been recently painted. He went to use it and extended the backhoe boom and it wouldn't retract. He said he hated to do it but he called the owner and he came and took the cylinder off the boom and got fluid all over his new paint. Next day he came back and put it on. My buddy ask him what was wrong with it, he said I'm ashamed to say......it had a shop rag in it where he rebuilt it

I’ve been working on my friends bent loader at the house some. I got it cut out and ready to weld patches in. I cut a relief in it and it bent back straight fairly easy.

We get close to the same mileage in town (not that I drive in town much) and towing around the same weight. On the highway on my last resent trip, 21-22 mpg.

Your buddies dad.... If he can swing the cost of a 2017 or newer GM, that would be the way to go. A 2018 Ram would be the perfect truck to get as well.

My 6.7 PS got 13 in mixed driving on winter fuel this year. 15-16 on the highway. I dip to
10-11 hooked to the gooseneck running 75 on the highway with 4.10 gears. I’m pleasantly surprised it doesn’t dip more being hooked up to a 16k lb sail. Funny enough my best mileage runs have come running through the smokies to Charlotte and Harlan and my worst has been through Illinois flatland running into a 45mph headwind when I got 6.5.

I’m at 8k miles since I bought the truck in October and 5k of them have been towing so it makes me feel better justifying the diesel

Not bad for a DRW truck with 4.10s. That GN trailer you have is huge.
