weird. It would be nice to at least know if they had experience with Tacoma projects before going in.

 

I could be wrong but I don't think those OME shocks are rebuildable. As far as when to rebuild or replace I wouldn't bother unless they are leaking, feeling like they aren't dampening anymore or if they have high miles (~50k or more) and it is a convenient time because you are already doing other work.

 

those are not rebuildable(mine blew and decided it was time for an upgrade)...You my friend are in the same boat

I think you just need resi’s if you want to be able to adjust your dampening on/off road. Anyone with more experience can/will correct me. you can get any of the big brands in coil over format and those are generally bigger bodied valves, with a stem for recharging them with I think nitrogen not sure if that’s mutually exclusive.

I didn’t do resis when I decided Icon but that is because I didn’t think I would want the adjustment. I honestly think I was wrong for the small jump in cost. Be sure to just dive into digressive, linear and progressive valving.

AccuTune Suspension down in California is known for dynamically tuning any of the big three to meet your standard. Icon leans digressive, fox - linear, and kings - progressive from what I have gathered over time.

 

It's looking like bumper season in my neck of the woods. I'm looking at weights though... Anyone have a rough approximation of what the stock OR rear bumper (w/ towing) weighs?

 

I want to say a steel bumper (not HC) weighs like 40lbs more than the stock setup w/ tow package. @Bertw192 does this sound about right

 

According to RCI, their non HC, hidden hitch bumper is only 20 lbs over stock. That stock trailer hitch is a boat anchor, so I believe it.

Thanks @WrecklessAbandon & @Bertw192 ! That is exactly the math I was needing to see. I'm looking to streamline my swingarm configuration (RigD design today - weighs like 75lbs as configured) + the figures above, I'm not too far off of my current set up.

Besides CBI, anyone have other non-HC bumpers w/ Swingarms I should be looking at?

No, the reservoir is primarily there to increase oil capacity (more oil equals greater heat dissipation equals less shock fade). That’s why, if you look, nitrogen goes in the resi. You don’t need this for slow off-road stuff because your shocks will never heat up enough to realize the benefit

 

Yep I thought one of the resis was adjustable for how much oil was provided. I must be crazy but could’ve swore one of the major coil over provides had the ability to adjust dampening from the resi. I would have assumed that was allowing more or less nitrogen which would increase the pressure.

 

Most adjustable shocks change the compression dampening by way of opening/closing of the oil pass through holes in the piston.

Built myself, could not in any rational mind justify what Wilco wants for there’s.

 

I know some here have rebuilt their shocks themselves. But with how busy I am I thinking about paying to get them done. Any local options?
