What's the plan for the chimney? rip it out and then what is going in its place?

The game plan would be to rip it down to below the deck, and rebuild it from there, with brick. We need a chimney for the oil furnace. We explored options like updating the furnace to natural gas or propane, which would negate the need for a chimney, however we dont have access to natural gas and wifey wouldnt approve a big propane tank.

We have been toying with the idea a couple years now. Bought the house in 2015, and in 2017 we learned the clay liner in the chimney was falling apart in chunks, and a large piece was obstructing the furnace exhaust. That was the year we got married, and money was tight so we just had a liner installed vs redoing the chimney at that point.

The deck is extremely shakey so that was our main goal this summer. Since we are redoing the deck, it just made sense to attack the chimney this year too. And the quotes we got back seemed decent. Two were between 5-6k with the outlier being 8k.

Whoa. Yeah, lot's going on there.
Going to keep the same size for the deck or changing things a bit?
Next up for here will be a deck on the back. Right now there is a small platform with stairs, but I'd like something a bit bigger to put a table and chairs on for outside dining/entertaining, etc.
    We'll get there.

Yeah, I have a 1k tank and (2) 500gallons burried. We have a 250 they don't bury as well. Just have a little black cap sticking up on the ones that are underground so they can access and fill them. You gotta pay to dig it and then run the line of course, but in the long run looks way better, and less danger of someone hitting it.

The pictures came before the big wet areas on the way down. Still made it out without too much mud. How she sits right now. It was a great time!

Ahh everything in ct I know of is near the ma/ct/ri line. I’m just over the line in mass north of Thompson. I don’t know of anything but I’m sure there is some trails north of you in litchfield county. I did a bit of work out there the last few years and it’s pretty desolate.

The most I've been able to find is some dirt/gravel roads.
