Alignment a warranty issue??

Hi all,
My Tacoma was recently in a rear end collision ($8700 worth of damage), and the service department @ toyota told me that I would need an alignment, as my tires where cupping. The truck only has 14,500 miles on it, and I have gotten the tires rotated once. Is this a warranty issue? My 2010 double cap is all stock, never done anything crazy with it, did one 2200 mile road trip and that was about it.... Any suggestions?

could it have occurred from the accident? it's hard to say which direction you can go. i'd probably have had it grouped into the damage repair if i were you, either way, since the truck was in new condition before the accident and now has an issue.

i'd get a second opinion from a reputable independent shop anyway.

 

Toyota guarantees their alignment for 20,000. I've had this argument already at 5k on my 2010. They claim if it screws up the tires because of alignment, then they will replace the bad tires and redo the alignment.

 

I would almost have to believe it has to do with the accident...

I really dont think it has anything to do with the accident. You can see an ever so slight cupping to the tires already beginning to form on the outsides of the tires. The truck was only driven approx. 20 miles while at the shop, you can clearly tell that it was caused by an improper alignment or inproper suspension settings. However, with that being said, I know most dealers consider tires to be a "wear items"; Having driven sports cars before my Taco, I know that dealers wouldn't TOUCH clutch issues (my friend had a car that had a clutch go bad around the 15K mark), simply because it was considered a "wear" item.

 

Which tires are cupping, front or back? Your tires should have been rotated 3 times already with that kind of mileage so it may be a combination of both bad alignment/lack of rotation. Alignment is under warranty for 12mo or 20k miles which ever comes first

 

3 times?? I thought it was once every 6,000 miles??

 

Some people do the rotate/balance for the tires every 5,000 miles.

As far as alignment goes I believe it should be every 6,000 miles or whenever needed.
