My high school did 2 blood drives every year.

 

That was a super informal interview lol, I haven't had an interview that informal since I got hired on the spot at the local meat market at 17 years old. But man this job sounds like dream material.

The company is contracted out by NASA every 5 years and the current contract just started, they've been with NASA since 2002. Unfortunately this means they get a fixed budget and there's no room for wage negotiation, but the 2 senior manager positions on the photo team are looking to retire soon and their positions would eventually be open as well.

Better benefits than my current job and profit sharing, which my current company doesn't have.

International travel couple times a year

Mostly photographing aviation development material and experimental planes around the base and in aircraft testing centers, so I'd finally be free of being stuck in a studio all day everyday.

Man I just might have to take this if they offer it to me

 

And Kern County next door is much more affordable cost of living-wise than LA county

 

sometimes a better job is more than just the money

 

Did they give any indication to how quickly they would be retiring or talk about promoting from within?


I took a payout to come work st the panel shop mostly because it's a much more relaxing job compared to where I was but also because I was promised growth from within the company.. that was a big deal to me because theoretically I could be better off in the long run then I could ever be at my old job

Yeah for sure, I'm starting to accept that I think. It's nice finally making a good income though but if it means being afraid to leave my current job, then I'm going to be stuck in LA for the rest of my life which frankly is not an option

 

He mentioned that was part of the reason they were looking for someone new, so I suspect sometime within this new contract's time frame
