Ben95, thanks so much for posting this and for your video. I also have a 2012 and this seems to be exactly what I was thinking of but could never find. I think I am going to order one and give it a try.

The question is to go with the knobs (8" screen) or without (9" screen)? I am almost 65 so the larger the screen the better :). However, I can't tell how you would adjust the volume on the screen with the 9". I know I can use the steering wheel, but from the pictures at https://www.joyingauto.com/joying-9...or-toyota-tacoma-2005-2015-apple-carplay.html I don't see any evidence of a volume control on screen even at the radio screen. I don't want to have to dig into a menu to get to the volume control. Maybe you just swipe down from the top? Jconn47: Did you buy the one without the knobs?

I am hoping that I could figure out how to port the postage stamp backup camera from the mirror into the head unit. I have not searched for if that is possible yet, but if any of you know offhand, it would be appreciated. If not, I can get the camera they sell and add it onto the back bumper perhaps.

    Thanks again for the information.

This is a cool unit with real knobs and wireless carplay. I have the pioneer unit, great unit but no knobs and cost about double. Its also a double din in the back and very tight fit with the wires.

There are several threads on how to tap the factory camera to RCA style plug. And the vol buttons are illuminated when the screen is on from what I can tell

I have the one with knobs, so I'm not sure how the one without does it. the steering wheel controls work for me though.

The calling works great on my end. Some people have said it's a bit noisy at like 70-80mph. So be mindful of that if you have a lead foot like me. The internal mic seems to work a little better. I ended up unplugging the external one.

Just thinking, correct me if I am wrong: When you update the "firmware" on these things you are essentially installing outside of the play store so it makes it easier for malware to be part of the install. It could include something really nasty like this: https://techcrunch.com/2021/03/26/android-malware-system-update/ . We will always be at the mercy of the companies pushing out the updates to be sure they are malware free - yeah, sure

Well, I guess it already was a thing. Once I saw this thread, my first thought was to see wtf was actually running on it. I would trust some no-name Chinese android device about as much as a fat girl around a large order of fries. Personally, I don't feel like shelling out $400 and wasting half a day of time just to mess around. Aside from any article, I'm a no-go for this one. But also, I'm a knob and button guy, give me the knobs and buttons, all of them.

Hey Ben! Do you know what app you ran to make your unit look like that? It's very clean. Good job!

Quick question for anyone who successfully installed the 8" version with the knobs. How were you able to get it to mount flush in your dash? Did you have to modify the factory brackets?

I know Ben mentioned drilling new holes in his factory brackets? Can you explain a little more about that?

Everything in the install went smoothly I just can't get the thing to sit nicely in the dash using any sort of brackets or hard form of mounting. It'll fit nicely if I just set it in there...but obviously that's definitely not a permanent solution.

    Thanks all.

I’m hoping mine will be here soon. Keep us posted on install tips to get it to fit flush.

Installed mine today in my 09. The existing holes will match up but it pushes the main unit 1/8 too far forward for the screen to snap in, so I aimed it downwards and had to notch a hole to make it fit. Here are some pics of my install. I'll take more tomorrow.20210409_201920.jpg 20210409_202102.jpg

Thanks for the pics. That looks drastically angled. Does the face plate still go on at that angle?
