Started on my steering kit, I think I got the wrong tie rod adapter @81Trekker. I should have the one for a 2.25” kit.

You’re one piece extensions will be getting mailed out Friday. We are supposed to pick them up from the machine shop this afternoon. I sent you the standard ones so you could get your truck together in the meantime

Just picked these up... we now have steering extensions for our double shear kits in 3 sizes.

    stock length
    2.25”
    4”

The 2.25 will work with any 2.5” LT kit and the 4” will work with a 3.5” LT kit.

so basically no matter what kit you have you can run the double shear kit to your factory inner tie rods

Do you have a build thread for the rebuilding of your 81 , awesome work on all this Toyota stuff , what a wealth of knowledge and true craftsmanship. I only have one question at the moment and I’m sure it’s common knowledge but on the the axle kits you sell is there not an issue with the outer stock cv as it’s being reused , they don’t fail or have an issue and they generally hold up to the punishment ?

    There is a build https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/81-tube-frame-trekker-now-adding-ttb’s-and-400hp.626283/

I post a bunch of pics on IG too- @toyota_dreams

the outer cvs generally break because the inner binds up first putting a lot of stress on the axle which in turn breaks the outer CV. The 934 relaxes the axle at full droop and helps keep the outer alive

Just a heads up to anybody running +2.25 kit and wanting to put on 4.75" back space wheels, full compression and full crank can have some issues:

    20210318_192448.jpg 20210318_192419.jpg

Some how I never noticed that when doing the install and cycling everything. I don't think it happens often at all, but just so you know to check.

It only happened on the passenger side. Driver side wore through the strap, but didn't contact the bolt.

The bolt head wore a groove into the rim right on the very edge of the inside face of the wheel a few millimeters deep and wide. Not super awesome, but I think the wheel will be okay.

Not JD's fault in any way at all, just want to give a heads up for anybody considering a similar setup. These are 4.75" BS 17" wheels. 16's would likely hit the tire bead rather than the rim. I know the Harry recommends 4.5" back space, and this is another reason to listen to what he says! I was stoked when they cleared the spindle gusset without issues, but didn't foresee this problem!

Just noticed a few days later after rallying the truck a bit on the weekend. Only happened fully cranked with the wheel in a certain compressed position. I don't think I could even make it happen in the shop. I think extra flex of being off road just pushes everything that little bit further which is why I never noticed before.

Jeez! At least one of us is out there using the kits! I can’t wait to use mine.

I would imagine it applies to the +4 kit too. I’m on a 3.5BS 16in wheel but I will be going 17. Wasn’t sure if I was going to do 4 or 4.5 backspace.
