Suggestions on upgrading my headlights...2017 Tacoma TRD/OR

So, I still have the factory headlight bulbs in my 2017 Tacoma OR.....they are yellow and I would really like to change them to something that better matches my high beams. I would like to stay with something street legal and simple.

Any suggestions?

Best option, swap German Philips H9 bulbs into your low beams to match your high beams. Does require trimming of a plastic tab on the bulb. If not interested in trimming the best plug and play option is Tungsram Nighthawk Xenon +120 H11s. See post #2 in the above thread.

 

Reading some of that made my head hurt. I am amazed at how much research and comparison you did with all those fog lights. That's a very good job.

But, I have so much on my mind right now, I just don't have the time to read it all and absorb it in a way to make an informed decision.

I would just like to pick up a replacement set of low beam bulbs for my 2017 Tacoma OR. My factory low beam bulbs (like all of them I assume) are yellow and dim...so different from my factory high beams. I want to replace my low beam bulbs with something like my factory high beams, but dont want to blind people. I would prefer to stay street safe/legal and not install something that will draw more attention to myself when driving at night.

I will try and do a search for the Nighthawk Xenon +120 H11's and see if about purchasing them.

Open to any other suggestions as well.

Thanks. Yea, I found this one.....the bad review is just one review I suppose. But Thanks. I will give this one a try. I hate my factory low beams.

Just never made sense to me why Toyota would have such a difference between the quality of the low and high beams

 

Note that many bad reviews comment on reduced bulb life and that the bulbs do not look like "xenon" HID bulbs. Yes, performance halogens have reduced bulb life, they will not last 5-7 years like the OEM very low performance halogen bulbs. These being the highest performance plus efficiency bulbs, they do have much shorter bulb life, that is how halogens work. Long life with low performance or shorter life with high performance. 1 year or less is likely with the Xenons, this is well worth the performance gains IMO, but does catch many people off guard that have run the stock bulbs for years. The bulbs are named Xenon because they use an expensive Xenon gas fill instead of halogen gas, which makes halogens brighter and slightly whiter. It does not mean they will look like HID in color temp, which is often complained about in reviews as people expected a 'Xenon' bulb to look like HID, even though that isn't at all what was meant. So take the reviews with a grain of salt, most poor reviews on these bulbs are from a lack of understanding by the consumer, not poor performance by the product.

Alternatively you can swap Philips H9s (same as high beam) into the low beam by trimming an internal plastic tab on the bulb base. Output is better than the Tungsram Xenon +120s listed above.

 

Thought about upgrading to the LED lights??? I just bought a set. I live in BFE and driving at night is a bit sketchy at times. I figured it was worth the money. Just my thought. We shall see in a couple weeks when I install, but the pictures I have seen are night and day

 

You want these bulbs. They’re great, long lasting, won’t blind other drivers.

I've got tons of performance data on many LED products. What did you buy? Warning, most are misleading garbage.

 

I went with OEM 2020’s. Not the best (I feel a retrofit HID would probably be better) but they work, fit, and I’ve seen them in action. Night and day from the halogen my truck came with

 

On the contrary, I'd say you made the best choice currently available.

OEM LED headlight assemblies covered here. The latest Morimoto XBs v2.0 are higher output covered here, but the assemblies do not match OEM quality in light pattern design or build quality.

 

A quality HID retrofit with RX-350 projectors clear lens and tuned can be had for ~$400 including ballasts, igniters and bulbs. The OEM LEDs are in the $1300 price range. The question is, are you getting $900 worth of better light output and quality from the OEM LEDs?
I love LED lights, but the best bang for your buck is still a good HID retrofit.
