What good is the $100 in that kit if it won't even buy you an adequate tactical pen?

Check out the EDC subreddit. There are literally dudes min/maxing the amount of utility they can fit in their pocket and bragging about it

The fact that you know that exists is concerning to me.

What's more entertaining, its all just a bunch of shit like keychains, bottle openers, etc. I'd say most EDC guys don't even carry/conceal carry an actual side arm.

    Criminal: *attacks*
EDC guy: *proceeds to dig in EDC bag for floss, fire starter and toothpick*

I thought EDC was specifically what your carry/conceal carry was... now it's like overlanding in your pants... how much shit can I stuff for my EDCAF points

There is a lot of overlap with the handgun/concealed carry and EDC communities.

Sure, not disagreeing with that. I'll stand by my comment that majority do not carry a practical solution to defense, and bask in the glamour of shiny things, as opposed to useful things.

I do have to admit that with the EDC surge has come some badass, inexpensive flashlights. Something the size of a AA battery can completely blind a room full of people (heh).
