Dealer said my throttle body is dirty. instead of paying $160 for them to do it, I'm going to give it a try.

I've read a couple write ups and seams straight forward.

My question is: Can I push and open the butterfly value if the I the throttle body disconnected? Will pushing on the value cases the gears/motor to get off track? Or should I leave it alone and just clean around it. Thanks

I have some cleaner on order.

I was planning on leaving it connected and propping it open and toothbrush method.

also pulling the mass airflow sensor as well and cleaning it

Post back and let us know if its actually dirty when you go to clean it or if the dealer was trying to make a quick buck. They typically love recommending additional maintenance thats not part of the vehicles routine maintenance guide. if you don't do it or other suggested maintenance at least it wont void your warranty either per the manual:

    "Dealer-Recommended Maintenance:
Your dealer may recommend more frequent maintenance intervals or more maintenance services than those listed in the scheduled maintenance log. These additional services are not required to maintain your warranty coverage. Ask your dealer to explain any recommended maintenance not in"

Any of these cleaning services should be done with the battery terminals removed .
You can manipulate the throttle body in any direction with the battery posts removed .
Most use a Techstream to reset the idle position but can be done just by removing the battery terminals . Its going to allow your ecm to quickly adjust for the new idle position instead of the truck stalling for at least a day . When crap builds up in the throttle body , your ecm compensates for this . Now that your throttle body is clean , The ecm in your truck has to learn a new idle format . If you remove the terminals , the ecm thinks you have a new throttle body with zero contamination . The result ... your truck will idle
Will also save the OP from posting that his truck runs rough and stalls after throttle body cleaning .
An old toothbrush works well with throttle body cleaner . The toothbrush is gentle on the anodized coating

I believe you have to reset it in Techstream; "Reset Idle Learn", or some such.

This and the MAF sensor cleaning was recommended by the dealer for my wife's 2018 Rav (50K miles +/-)...dealer wanted well over $300. Called the local mechanic, he did both for under $150. Came back saying they really weren't that dirty. But, from what I understand not cleaning them on a regular basis can result in the potential for problems later on.

    This ^^^

Many modern scan tools have this function, I have a Launch unit that does this.

To the OP, most of these services are profit centers for the dealer. Unless you're having issues I would decline any dealer add-ons.

    Just my $0.02...

I use to run sea foam per directions through my throttle body and intake runners for the 4.7 tundra...kept it spotless, plus it cleaned the valves. Smoked like hell through. Dealer wanted $120 at the time for this service. Easiest thing to do.

Check out some YouTube videos from the Car Care Nut. He indicates the later Tacoma’s don’t have this issue.

    No.....don't use brake cleaner.

Use MAF cleaner on the MAF, no toothbrush just spray.
Use Throttle Body cleaner on the Throttle Body. Be gentle with the butterfly, it will move with some small effort, tooth brush is acceptable.

Disconnect the Neg terminal on the Battery and you could pull the wire harness connectors to the MAF and Throttle Body.

    Think about it.

Where would you think the Throttle Body connector should be located..........?

Sorry, I'm not in a position to say what a dealer does. I did not remove the throttle body on my truck to clean it.

MAF is the upper photo in your post, on the intake pipe between the air box and TB.
