    THIS.

If there wasn't a market for it, they wouldn't be doing it. You can't tell me the places that take it don't recognize that it's the same person coming in all the time either, so it's not like mine just fell out and I'm tryin to get a couple bucks for it

Dang, crushed. I was hoping he accidentally managed to cut the orange wire.

I wouldn't be surprised if the family of the thief sues the owner of the Prius for his death claiming hazzard, a lack of warnings, or some other nonsensical BS. Stranger things have happened.

    Stupid thing to die for!
    Here's a thought:
With our liberal society and no one wanting to take responsibility for their own actions, who is the family going to sue?
The owner of the Prius for buying the car?
Toyota for putting a catalyst on made with highly expensive commodities?
The EPA for such tight pollution laws that the converter is made with precious metal?
Then there's the company that produced a tool that was able to cut it off.
I guess the list could go on.

I recently watched a news clip of a local county sheriff advising to etch your VIN on the CATs. Or install a cage under them like a previous post showed.

added: I'm going to do this right now!

All of the above plus Toyota for not having a safety system for thieves stealing cats. Don't laugh, it will probably become a class action suit. Just wait, the Law Offices of Dewey, Screwem, and Howe will have a late-night ad on for victims of catalytic converter theft injuries and those who are traumatized from having witnessed it or because they heard about it on social media. They will be gathering litigants for a class-action suit. Right after that, the next ad will offer 10cents on the dollar to buy the structured settlements. It's the circle of stupidity. It's like the circle of life, but longer lasting.

I saw an image of a cheap OEM screw drive jack that bent like a pretzel in some of the coverage. I had one of those fail on me a few years back though since I was not a stupid lowlife thieving asshole, I was not under the car at the time.

I once saw a guy under a vehicle trying to get a spare down with one of those screw jacks fully extended in a gas station parking lot. The tire/wheel was already removed and the whole vehicle was shaking while he was trying to break it loose. As I rode by I kept saying to myself, please don't fall while I'm here. He at least should have kept the tire/wheel on while he was trying to free the spare tire. I lived nearby and never heard the sound of an ambulance, so I guess luck was on his side.

I remember watching Scotty Kilmers car channel and him always under the car with just a jack but recently started to watch again after a year of not viewing, and every time he is under a car he always talks about safety, using jack stands, maybe he was getting demonetized before for safety.

This theft happened in Anaheim near where my wife teaches school. The more sophisticated thieves are using an ultra cheap but sturdy jack and leaving them behind in some cases. My deductible is $500. So, I am not going to spend $500 on a skid plate. There is a bolt on solution with a bracket and steel cables that I am going to try. Anything to slow them down and maybe move on to their next victim might help. This is more than crackheads. The COVID shutdown has ruined millions of people’s lives nationwide. So, people are getting desperate. I would stay locked and loaded inside your house.
