Anyone have any rough weather today?
I'm from Northern AL so we are used to tornadoes.

Burlington got some nice lighting and thunder, 5-10 minute rain storm but that's about it. I am hearing more sirens than normal though

We are about 2 miles from Elon in Alamance County. Maybe it just missed us but the weather wasn't bad at all.

Some light rain and a lot of fog today before "the storm" was supposed to hit Raleigh. During "the time frame" it was sunny and partly cloudy.

The whole thing of using the cat # (hurricane system) I think is ridiculous! It's a severe thunderstorm with tornado watches./warnings. Nothing new for NC.

I think it's ridiculous as well. Growing up in a very tornado prone area, "warning" means tornado spotted or on the ground or "hook echo" with high levels of sheer on radar. I understand the National Weather Service puts out these notifications but in the past 10+ years it's gotten worse especially for the places that aren't used to getting tornadoes. I could be wrong but I don't think Burlington gets many but the on screen weather people tend to go overboard. To a point I get it to keep people aware

Too much media influence.. "Bomb Cyclone", named winter storms, etc.. I guess people need it.. Movies, television, vine, snapchat, tik tok, so much more short ADHD content.

    Mebane came out unscathed.
Yeah, the news were going on and on about the same big tree and downed "line", and "oh look, neighbors are cleaning up and talking to each other".

So two things.. just my .02 from growing up in an area that was prone to tornadoes

news sells.. so yes they embellish things to get revenue to continue. We’ve all experienced that.

second, it’s a concept of “Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it”

I’m in the camp of telling me the worst possible outcome so I can prepare for it. If it doesn’t happen (like today) then fuck it.. I have extra supplies and I’m not really out much trouble. I’m a fairly prepared guy on a regular basis so getting prepped for a big storm or hurricane isn’t more than checking to make sure I have gas and propane plus moving my shit into the garage.

flip side is if they didn’t warn folks and a tornado did hit (look at oak island and Southport a month ago) and a tornado does hit.. then everyone is fucking livid that no one warned them. That example is actually the fault of some trees blocking Doppler radar and a major source of controversy down here, but a good example of why it’s better to overplay then underplay

our local meteorologist made a good analogy. It’s like baking a cake from scratch. One tiny mismeasure of one ingredient will result in things not coming out anywhere near the expected outcome. That’s what happened today. The formula was there but Mother Nature didn’t include enough baking soda and the cake came out shitty and underwhelming

I'm with you on being prepared for the worst and the media trying to prep the local community who needs days of heads-up to try to get it through their thick skulls that there might be storms coming.

I just find local news, well any news ridiculous sometimes. That's why I rarely watch it.
Oh, and it's so funny when everyone rushes out to buy all the eggs and milk at the last minute when a possible snow is coming.

    Quote from above article

“Hey my friends, y’all, we getting ready to ride into a tornado ... Let’s roll the window down and see what we can see.”

Wow. I've done my fare share of storm chasing but this? To think that could've been his last words

Lol yea I never understood that one. I got shit talked by friends in college for always having buckets of mountain house food on hand.. until Ike hit Galveston and we were without power for two weeks.. then everyone wanted a meal

Where that video was taken is literally 5 min from my house about 1 mile as the crow flies. It was an ef0 or something like that. There was some down branches and a couple powerlines in some areas around Elon that was it. Not a huge deal at all.

I'm about 5 minutes from where it was as well. Honk if you ever see a MGM truck with a metallic black shell with racks. Kayaks and paddleboards on it quite a bit.

Not a big deal after the fact but weather changes fast. It's been much more windy at the house today compared to the storm. Gusting to 35mph today. That area definitely had heavier wind and rain than we did 5 miles away (by road)

They are getting pretty wild out here too. Was hoping to get out on the boat this weekend, but I’m not fighting those numbers
