Yeah when I approached the guy about it (just him and one other employee that works there), he gave me a long story about how he feeds his family with this shop, he can't afford to pay me back, times are hard...and I totally get it, but dude you fucked up here not me lol.

We finally agreed he'd pay me back in increments, which he did until the labor was paid back and then refused to do the cost of parts. At that point I just took it as the price of a lesson learned.

 

Funny story, John Hopkins University had MENSA testing classes for local high school kids that my elementary school signed me up for cause I was too smart for my own good. That caused me to get put on some generic mailing list where I started receiving "congratulations on graduating" junk mail from Gillette before I was out of middle school. Then I started receiving AARP membership offers before I was out of High school
