Do I need to change leaf spring?

So I broke my stock bilstiens so I thought that now is a good time to upgrade. I'm going to get the fox 2.0 reservoirs which come with a 2-3 inch lift (in the back). So if I get this shock will I need to get a new leaf spring due to the increased lift?

 

The leaf springs are what provide the lift. If you were to get the

985-24-117 shocks (for 2-3" of lift) you wouldn't change your ride height, but you would get 1.5" more inches of possible droop and you would move the compressed length down 1" compared to the 0-1.5" lift shocks. This means without changing the leafs you would lose 1" of up travel, you might get more droop (probably limited by the leafs anyway), and you would want to put a spacer on your bumpstop so you don't bottom out the shock.

 

So then if I got 985-24-116 (which has no lift) the ride height would stay the same right? The only difference being the suspension feel. Thanks for your help

 

Springs are what effect ride height, shocks only control the cushioning, so yes. If you don't plan on adding blocks, and aal, or new leafs, I'd get the 985-24-116s.

 

So if I did want to get a lift in the rear, what method of lift would be the best?

 

Depends on your budget, add a leaf is an option but is really just a bandaid a whole new spring pack would be the best option, Dakar’s are popular and some what budget friendly but deavers IMO are the best way to go.

 

The best would be a new leaf pack, but I've seen a lot of people get great results from a 3 leaf AAL. I don't have any personal experience with them, so you might want to search some common AALs for reviews on here or wait for others to chime in. I know the Icon 3 leaf aal has a good reputation around here though. It really depends on what you use your truck for too.

I do a lot of high speed off roading so I need something that won't break as easily and I also don't carry any load in the back

 

Then I would think you definitely want a nice leaf pack. You should start doing some research on the other's suggested packs.
