I’ve got a set of trailer wires with the 4 pin connector just sitting in the garage, so I may give it shot. Just need to order a decent light and see how it goes. Plenty of backup options in this thread if I don’t like it.

Sounds like a good plan to try.

Too many shitty drivers around here to not have the 3rd brake light and the @MESO TotalTails.

I’m pretty sure using the 4-pin connector for the trailer wiring will not work as you want. Reason is, it’s a combo switch kinda thing at that plug, brake and turn. So, if you hit the brakes, your add on 3rd brake will lite up. If you flip the turn signal on for whatever side you hook into, it will flash.

You will have to tap in at the actual wire at the rear brake light it’s self.

Well damn. I was thinking since there were separate wires for the turn signals that it would work. I didn’t think about running lights though. If I had my lights on, the third light would be on as well. Thanks for the info!

    2 questions:

For anyone who has reflectix installed, do you keep it in in the summer? Does it make it hotter or cooler? I imagine it would insulate from the heat of the black top from the outside but also reflect heat from the inside

For anyone who has painted the rails and frame of the topper, what kind of prep did you do? Is self-etching primer/paint sufficient?

Just a good wipe with alcohol. The mount rails and clamps are anodized. I haven't done the frame yet. Etching primer might be a good idea there.

I know it's not a softtopper, but here's what I've done to my bestop so far. Hacked up a meso 3rd brake light for a 2nd gen

Here's the current project, currently making a zip in tent extension so I can have the tailgate down while camping. The rear window in these zips in, so I just made another zip in insert with fabric that extends all the way to the tailgate. I still need to put some fabric on the sides and trim it down so that it's completely enclosed, and add in a waterproof zipper for the door, but you get the basic idea. Snaps in place with some plastic surface mount snaps, pretty low profile and a nice semi-permanent solution for attaching the fabric to the tailgate.

    Nice work!

I have had a lot of success installing snaps, but you got some real game there.

How well is the light sealed? I'm guessing no leaks.

That tent extension of really cool though. Very impressive.

Thanks man! So the flap that the snaps are attached to is actually external to the window insert, so if it leaks it just hits the vinyl window!

How long does it take to remove the softtopper? I'd like it and a tri-fold cover for various reasons, but would rather not have to pick one over the other if they are both fairly easy/quick to remove.
