Well, I really don't totally disagree, when i carried it was a .38 revolver & my bedside is a 9mm, however, a lot has been written lately about the lowly .22 and it seems the opinions are changing. For someone who is recoil sensitive or someone who's knowledge of guns in general is limited, the .22 could be the answer, a 9mm in the hands of sensitive person in a tense situation can easily spell disaster, A couple of well placed shots in the "Pumpkin" at say 7/10 yards, may not put a "bad guy" down, but I can assure you he will do some funny things standing up. jmop

.22 has killed more people than any other caliber here in the US. I have a Beretta .22 that I would not hesitate to grab and squeeze off a few rounds in self defense.

22lr is better than nothing but if I had a 22 next to a 9/45/38/whatever else, I wouldn't be grabbing the 22 for sure.

Then again my mentality is that a handgun's main use is to get you to a rifle or out of the area.

I got 9, 45 and 357, but most days I carry a North American .22 mag derringer in a leather slip in my pocket. It’s so comfy and can’t even feel it’s there until I need it.

.22 lr is better than a sharp stick so there's that.

Shot placement is King and yes the best use of a handgun is to help you get to your rifle

I can't believe I've sparked a caliber discussion on a Tacoma board. I'll refrain from further input, these are almost as bad as oil flame wars. :bananadead:

Back on topic: I finally acquiesced and brought home a G19Gen5 non-MOS. I love my USP9c but I need to get with the times as far as accessory rails, pistol optics, and holsters are concerned.

Bought a M&P Performance Center Shield Plus on the way home from dinner.

I've had the Performance Center version of the original Shield for years and it has basically become my wife's EDC. The new version feels dang near the same in hand but is 13+1 and has a much improved trigger.

Did you pick up the ported version? I'm curious how ports affect ballistics out of an already micro-length barrel.

No much. Get good chrono and do your own testing. I had to have tested thousands of pistols and barrels. Being ambiguous, most of these guns in this size lose about 30-45 fps from porting. The silly thing is the gain is only about 30% reduction of felt recoil...recoil that could be mitigated with just good fundamentals and proper coaching and locking ones joints properly.

Ballistically if one is concerned about 45 fps reduction, and with handguns we are usually talking terminal ballistics, you ought to get a whole different handgun. If for instance, your ammo requires for xxxx fps for proper expansion at xx distance, I’ve seen 20-40 fps extreme spread on premium defensive ammo. Varying lot to lot.

I'm not sure you sparked anything, we we discussing the purchase of some .22 caliber ammo, This isn't a Tacoma board, it is a "Discussion group" on a Tacoma site. You stated your opinion and it was well taken, maybe not agreed to by everyone, but well taken. maybe you should post your purchase of your pistol on one of the other Discussion sites, (makes about the same sense), comparing this discussion to an Oil discussion, wtf. "Back on Topic" You want people to discuss your purchase? That would be as bad as a Oil Tread.

Certainly didn't mean for it to be misinterpreted that way. Caliber/oil discussions traditionally spiral into vitriol on message boards and I wanted to head it off at the pass. I assure you there's no bad blood intended.

Regardless, time for me to decipher the nightmare that is Safariland's holster naming system. I'm so glad Serpa holsters went the way of the dodo bird.
