I’m sure this has come up a lot, but I’d like to switch out the stock pro tires with other options. I’m hoping to have my factory order Trd LR ready from the dealer in early May, it has no additional accessories beyond the Trd pro package, has anyone had experience of getting the dealership to switch tires? I want to save having to store and sell them via eBay. Any recommendations for tires/ or lift. I’m more into overlanding, off the beaten track camping trips with family and will have to consider a lot of miles on the highway to get to these destinations being in Michigan . I’ll be carrying an rsi cap, And prinsu rack, sliders etc, all adding weight to effect the mpg!

Nice video, I love the way drones can do that now.
Maxxis tire question - Looks to me like the 265/75R16’s are available only in an E load rated LT tire. Is that true, and the reason why you are running the C load 265/70R16’s?
They look awesome BTW, way bigger that the stock Goodyears!

I'm running SL 265/70s. In my 30 years playing with pickups off road, I'm increasingly convinced that an E rated tire is total overkill for such a light truck.

The SL still exceeds the payload capacity of the truck. A C load often has a lower weight rating than an SL. And I also regularly air down to 20psi with SL tires.

Every time I get convinced to run an E, I Immediately regret it. All that extra sprung weight makes the truck feel really sluggish. Anymore, the best I've heard it described, is only run heavy LT tires if you often go into remote/rugged areas where rescue/recovery is difficult/impossible.

Otherwise SL tires have taken me into some rough and remote places without any issue. Yes, I have to be more careful and aware off road, But how much nicer the truck is to drive, day to day, has made it totally worth it for me.

Also, this was my mileage driving home from my MTB ride tonight.PXL_20210320_013159303.jpg

Thanks, good advice; I feel like you do about E rated tires.
Do the Maxxis Raxr AT’s come in an SL rated tire in 265/75R16? I only see that size in an LT.

Yes... only in LT at this time...

I’ve sent Maxxis and distributors some notes about wanting them in 265 75 16 SL. Feel free to do the same!
If enough of us do - Maybe by the time I need tires, they’ll be making these! (Or sooner!)

We went down the hill this weekend to warmer climates and took the opportunity to do a first oil change (2,600* miles -@4 months). I also installed ValvoMax Valve and new filter, and also gave the Taco a nice wash.
(*Almost 500 of those miles was my drive to bring it home, so I've not done a lot of driving - only fun drives and occasional chores. No commute!)

It was the first oil change - so I took off the bash plate for ease of working on this funky filter canister set-up and to scope out the workings under there - just so I'd get to know what was under there... (This is my first Tacoma and first truck). I'm very hapy that it is enough to work under there without requiring to lift. All my previous cars have been VERY low to the ground.

It all went pretty smoothly. The cannister was not overtight (just snug). The ValvoMax will make future oil changes clean and easy witht the little fitting with hose eliminating all splashing - I hope to be able to use the hose to drain right into the oil container, eliminating the oil catch pan.

I had my doubts that I had received the correct valve as the diameter seemed tiny compared to all other oil drain holes I've ever seen previously... but yes - it is that small! - No issue though! - I think my tea is often thicker than that warm 0W-20!

The oil was dark - but without any metal bits that I could see. Truck seemed happy to have new clean oil. It happily raced-up the hills on the way back. The oil seems to have remained in the engine as intended - so that is good news.

    Just stock size in LT.

Tire installer commented that it felt like the weight was about the same between Maxxis and Goodyear.

Congrats! I'm sure it will be worth the wait.... Mine was supposed to be delivered between March 20-23. That is the third delivery window I was given and still no updates! I don't mind waiting but the lack of info is what's killing me. Could be tomorrow, could be next month :censored:

Looks like Toyota Process Engineers cleaned up the sticker error in Mexico.

January 22nd. Very possible I fell into one though. Dealer mentioned someone backed out of an order, but this one was exactly what I built - MT with no options.

The RAZR in LT at 265/70-16 is 53lbs. OEM Goodyear is 37lbs. The SL Maxxis is 38lbs. You're sure you have LT?

You are right, it's SL. 157.97 per tire.

I actually was very pleased with the whole purchase experience, might buy more from them and less from Tirerack.

They were kind of annoying to deal with when I had a unbalanceable K02 for my old Raptor. They got me a new replacement but it was more difficult than it needed to be.
