Last winter some one cut the cats off my 1ton SVS truck at work. Seems to go in streaks up here in ND usually when its cold :boom:

Theft is now legal in many areas, no punishment equals legal. My cats were stolen at 2pm in my wife's work parking lot. The police seemed they didn't want to be bothered, took report over phone. Truck was brand new so I ate the $500 deductible and had it oemed by Toyota.

Trend today is to go easy on criminal activity, lock no one up and let out those locked up. It's only going to get worst.

If you tolerate these policies they will continue.

Follow up on the report and see what their punishment is, if any. New LA Distric Attorney ran on lowering prison population and won.

They appear to go for 350-1500 in my area based on Craigslist ads. I can see where these scumbags think it’s worth the effort and risks.

They grabbed my Nephew's Taco cats in (very) rural Maine. Seems it doesn't matter where you are!

I dunno man. The United States has the highest incarceration rate, and by a healthy margin. I don’t think anyone is going easier on criminals, rather we don’t want to spend the money on rehabilitation and transitioning the incarcerated back into society. Maybe if we invested in work programs and other opportunities for these individuals, they could learn a skill or trade, such as automotive repair, instead of stealing cats. The recidivism rate in the US is 70%... let that sink in.

Problem is it's easier to steal than to work.

I gotta disagree with you there. I think most thieves would rather risk using a sawzall during the day near a loud busy road than in the middle of the night somewhere quiet. People walking by during the day would prob just assume they’re “fixing” their own car.
It’s worth the risk for them anyway, the cops don’t care and the penalties are just a slap on the wrist.....

The CatStrap that @whatstcp bought seems pretty cool, but i’ve found that a decent sawzall with a new blade and a fresh battery cut through most things fairly easily. Prob a good deterrent regardless. I’d be interested to get a sample piece of that strap and try cutting it myself.
IMO, a skid plate that covers the secondary cats is still the best deterrent. I bought a cheap aluminum transmission skid and plan on welding some extensions or wings on it to cover my cats...

Incouraging crime by making excuses for it isn't the answer. If I catch someone hacking on my truck their recidivism will be zero. Let that sink in.

Yeah - I was looking at getting some plates but I didn't see any that actually covered the cats. I wonder if there's a schematic out there with the dimensions of the frame and underbody with bolt locations so I could design my own cat shield.

just get a CBI skidplate.. the front is pretty easy to remove, but the rear carriage bolts are not going anywhere with out a LOT of effort.
