New 21 Tacoma has a loud clicking, silent fart, and rusty spring squeaking engine noise on normal operating temp of the engine. Noise from passenger side of the engine. Noise volume noticeable with the hood closed. I thought it was a exhaust manifold leakage problem but when I took it back to dealer, they opened hood and said it’s a normal noise coming from a hi pressure fuel and vacuum pump and didn’t even take a further look. Sent me back with a clicking farting squeaking Tacoma. I have a iPhone video the engine bay of the sounds but I can’t upload on this forum (wrong file format). Thoughts?

Sounds like you described direct injection. Go back to the dealership and ask to listen to another one on the lot.

Again, thanks all. The noise is indeed the Tacoma Tick. Or as my salesperson accidentally coined, the Tacoma Time Bomb. Cause it really does sounds line one. Went back to the dealer and they fired up a new Tacoma. Exact same sound. Went back home and did the old super long metal rod to the ear on one end and the other end on various components in the engine bay to ID the culprit. Turns out it was exactly what the Toyota mechanic told us. It’s the high pressure fuel pump. At least now I know excessive clickity clack farting noises are normal.

I have a sound on my 2021 2.7L that I only just started noticing around 2k miles. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t always there. But now that I know about it, it bothers the crap out of me if I don’t have the music loud. Planning on pointing it out at my first service. It’s a very low hum and almost vibration with the exhaust when I’m idle or rolling idling, but up in the engine.

Had the same issue on my 17'. The mechanic told me it was the vacuum pump (very common on the 3rd gen). Unfortunately, it was not covered with my $3k warranty(scam) because it wasn't "broken".... They originally wanted to charge me $970 to replace the part. After they talked to the warranty office they only charged me $250. I honestly can't tell the difference in the sound although it is somewhat less noisy than before.

In other words, let it ride my friend!
