If I remember right I think I have it set exactly to 160. Anything below your thermostat starting temperature usually takes the fan about 20° more to kick in due to the uneven coolant temperatures between the upper and lower hoses.

Mine was set way low, like 120*. Just last week I bumped it up to 150. I've been monitoring my UG, it'll be interesting to test and tweak.

I never said they were bulletproof or fail safe.

I’ve seen a fair amount of clutch fan failures, especially when almost all vehicles had them. However, you generally have a decent amount of time or warning to address the issue before it goes ballistic.

That being said, I won’t deny electric fans may have some advantages, especially when idling in heavy traffic. That however gets negated by the total cooling loss when the electric motor fails or the smaller blades crack.

I've never changed an electric fan, but changed a few defective fan clutches and a lot of "fan belts."

Ive had more failed sensors for electric fans than bad fan clutches. But, its the sensors or relays failing, not the electric fan itself.

I've spent some time tweaking it. I initially had it set to 170 but it would hardly turn on, then I set it to 150 and it overcooled, this was, however, with my AC off. The AC is the wild variable that you can't tune for so for now I just have it set to 160 which is my T-stat activation temp. It runs nominal at about 168 and goes up to about 172-175 on the highway.

That's wild. Even at 120 start, my temps would easily hit 203-206.

I think the 160 t stat is more capable of regulating temperature for the 2nd gens. Plus you have a 180 t stat. Regulation really doesn't start until those ranges for the 180 anyway. Plus, I don't run coolant. I run 90% water to 10% water wetter mix. (roughly) So thermal efficiency increases due to waters ability to remove heat from the engine block more effectively.

What are y’all talking about here. I have an221, the air conditioning just quit on me, I was stopped and it was over 100degrees. I took it to the dealer, I’m still waiting to here back in what the issue is.

Fun fact this only applies if your under 36k miles.

I'm at 37012 and was turned away.

Just picked this taco up last year as a CPO :(

    Sad times.

The TSB is a bit of a kluge anyway but then you rush a tech to get it done at or under the hours allotted and you open yourself up to Electrical Gremlins down the road. I live in Vegas and back in the Spring I had my windshield tinted 50%. This made a huge difference on the performance of the AC. The cab cools down much quicker and it doesn't struggle to keep up when traffic is stop and go. Driving in direction of the sun I no longer feel the heat on my arms and chest.

On a number of days in the last two weeks when it was over 110 I intentionally parked facing the sun. When I came out of the gym I placed my hand on the dashboard and on the center console and could barely discern a difference in temp.

I honestly don't get it. Drove all the way to the dealer getting warm humid air at each traffic light. Day before I sat in the pickup line to pick my kid up front school and I watched the temp on the dash slowly climb up to the line on the right before the H. It's 108 here where I live in Cali, (like 2 and a half hours from you) and my 2020 was doing this. Dealer got me into a 2021 rental. AC ice cold whole way home and temp stayed right dead center even after sitting idle in my driveway when I got home for like 20 minutes ish, (had to put my kids carseats in the rental) Popped the hood and this 21 doesn't have the accessory fan either. Why would this vary truck to truck? Lol

Got mine back from the dealer today. Was 8 days start to finish, they said it took a while for most of the parts to arrive. I guess time will tell if this was actually my issue. I'm still skeptical as to why some trucks would do this and others won't seeing that it's literally the same parts. Let alone mine didn't do this last summer at all.20210812_153317.jpg 20210812_153327.jpg

For those who got this TSB done already, You can put your aux light relays inside the box they install. Use normal spade terminals and it works perfectly.

Being that I was still under full warranty I'd rather them figure the cost and time to get it done. I guess to each their own but I'd rather not spend anything they should be fixing let alone probably should of came on the truck to begin with lol

Let's not forget about the rusting frames in various 2004-2010 Tacoma's, Tundras, and Sequoias that were replaced under a recall in 2016. Every manufacturer has it's demons...what about those darn floor mats? My Tacoma still gets checked for those every time it goes to a dealer. I also drive a 2001 Wrangler, no issues at all. I'm guessing your Jeep is a new fancy, minivan motor Jeep? Power windows and door locks?
