Toyota TRD OEM lift kit

My stuff arrived today, won’t have time for a few days to get it installed. But for $489 shipped for everything... it’s a no brainer.

I also ordered in some 1/4 spacers for the front, should give me 2.5 up front in total, and around 2 out back.

FWIW I ended up getting 2.25” of lift from these on the top setting on stock coils (2016 DCSB). Those spacers might get you closer to 2.75” of lift. Not sure what everyone else is getting though and every truck is different. Just thought I’d give you a heads up depending on how level or raked you want your truck

 

Thanks for the heads up, this is part of the reason I went with the spacer over something like the westcott designs preload collars. I want the ability to fine tune and get the rake I want out of it. fingers crossed it’s where I want it on the first go.

And yeah, truck differences, sport, offroad, 6 vs 4, manual vs auto, etc. It’s hard to get an exact expectation.

 

Are you keeping the OEM grille or do you have another aftermarket grill? Wondering about the whole sensor location issue. I'd like to keep my OEM grille but told I can't.

 

They said I can keep my OEM grill. They also do a Pro Comp 3/1 Spacer there on new trucks and include on the sticker price. Said they they dont do any changes to the sensor when they install those. I will update after it comes in and gets installed.

 

I asked McGeorge Toyota if they had that part number in stock (OEM lift kit with TRD-branded 5100s), and it's apparently only for replacement of factory (dealer?) installed parts--they basically said it's a part number for dealers only and I cannot order this as a consumer. In other words, it's not available for post-sale "upgrade."

In bought mine 3 months after I bought the truck. Each dealership is doing this different. Trying to make as much money as they can.

 

I am also having vibrations, I have been working with the dealer for weeks on trying to get this fixed.

Yes, it is probably the needle bearing. Getting the Toyota dealership to fix it has been a real pain. They are kind of giving me the run around.

 

Yeah, I figured it was the needle bearing, which seems to be pretty sensitive to lifts on the 3rd gen.

I did it myself on my 1st gen and it is not too terrible (if you comfortable with removing a CV, it's not much more than that). I would be surprised if the dealer would be comfortable doing the needle bearing, especially at no additional cost.

The first thing they tried was to replace 2 of the brand new tires I had purchased with the lift kit. They told me they were out of tolerance when they tested them.

I really hope I am not on the hook for paying to fix all this. The truck had about 1,000 miles when I had a Toyota dealer put on a Toyota lift. I am keeping my fingers crossed the dealer that installed all this can come through. It seems that this should 100% be covered under warranty. More to come.....

 

Even if they replace that driver's side needle bearing with another needle bearing, it'd still be no good. Seems like you might have to buy an ECGS bearing and bring it to them?

 

IMO, if they did not know the lift would affect the needle bearing...they SHOULD have. Therefore, they should make this right. If you're paying a premium for labor, they should no-hassle guarantee it!

 

This is the entire reason for doing this lift kit. There are lots of other kits to accomplish the same thing for less $$$ if they don't honor the warranty.

This is the correct procedure. But I'd be surprised if they were willing to install a) aftermarket part and b) customer supplied part. I get the sense dealers are liability-avoidant.

If they determine the needle bearing to be the issue and refuse to fix anything without a massive additional charge...I would personally buy the part myself and take it to an offroad shop to do the work (or do the work myself).

 

If anyone fixes the needle bearing issue for good can they post a link to the parts they used and if there is one, a DIY YouTube video on what's needed to install it? That would be really helpful for everyone going forward.

 

Update - Parts guy just called me to let me know Toyota will not let them order without the grill. They have to order the complete kit.
