The right one is the one that feels right to you and that you shoot accurately consistently, and most importantly, you WILL carry

Brand, caliber, size, pistol vs revolver, Aunt Nancy's opinion...none of it matters if you don't carry it. IMGOBO ;) ❤️

In my personal experience, the grip is critical, everything else being secondary.
If the handgun doesn't fit your hand well, you'll never be accurate with it.

Many people rave about the Colt 1911A1, for instance.
I despise it because it doesn't fill my hand, therefore my grip is not repeatable.
I inherited my Dad's 1911 and couldn't hit a barn from the inside.

    For what it's worth...:notsure:

    Good luck.

I traded it long ago for a Taurus 92.
I shot that Taurus better than any other handgun I ever owned.
Nice fat grip with double stack mag. Longish barrel, good trigger, good sights as pistol sights go.

    Mini Story Time :)

I also preferred it over the Beretta 92.
The Brazilian gov't made a deal with Beretta to set up a factory there to make them for their military.
After the contract was fulfilled, the factory and tooling was sold to Taurus.

This was the original design with safety /decocker on the frame, a very ergonomic location.
WTF was our military thinking by demanding the safety be relocated to the slide? o_O
Anyway, I sold it and regret it.
    But they still make them.
Fit and finish is perhaps not quite as good as Beretta, but still very fine.

Neither the Taurus nor the 1911A1 are concealable.
    I have a Walther PK380 for that.
Plus a Walther P-22 in .22 LR for (much cheaper) practice.
The two handguns are near twins.

Unusually for a .380 ACP, the PK380 is short recoil /locked breech instead of blowback.
Double /Single action with small spur on an exposed hammer rather than striker fired.
I dislike striker fired pistols and am too old to change. Sorry, Glock fans.
Unlike other .380s, the butt of the PK is large enough to be comfortable, while still being reasonably concealable.

I'm dubious about very small pistols like the Ruger LCP.
Sure it's eminently concealable, but the size is not conducive to good shooting.

I was at the range one day and one friend was telling me how much he liked his LCP and how accurate it is.
Two other friends, both retired policemen, overheard us.
One asked to see the Ruger.
He cleared it, looked it over, and said:

"You know what this is good for?"

He quickly shoved it in the owner's belly and said:

"Bang! That's what it's good for."
    (Meaning very close range only).

It's easy to learn how to shoot a handgun.
But remarkably difficult to shoot one well.
You have only one point of contact, a short barrel, very short sight radius...

    Anyway...JMHO.
