I recently put a deposit down on a DCLB SR5 and it seems the dealer submits orders every 2 weeks, yet this past weeks order they state "toyota didnt accept it" I have worked with this dealer before on used toyotas, and this is my first time ordering "new".

Is the above BS or common process ?

As far as I can tell, they get allocated trucks with certain factory specs. Sometimes it's possible to request changes to the factory options before the build date or to request an allocation of a truck that's closer to what you want. They're probably not getting those requests approved by Toyota right now. So not really BS

Toyota dealers don't order from the factory, they order from one of 12 distributors in North America. If the distributor does not have your configuration in stock or on order, they won't accept the dealer order.
All regions don't order the same stuff either. For example, less 4wd options in Florida and less 2wd options in Buffalo New York.

Supposedly Toyota has scaled back production due to material shortages.

I had a hell of a time finding what I wanted from a dealer(TRD OR, Army Green, Manual trans) so I ended up going to the used market and getting a 2018 quicksand. First dealer told me they could get it for 42k in 28 days, when I wanted to place my deposit the next day they said actually it would be 49k because it was fully optioned and it would take 45 days. I think they changed their order and got the truck loaded thinking I would buy it anyway and they could pocket some extra profit. The second dealer told me 30 days, then that one ended up being a 2WD sport. He found one for my price and options but was 45 days out again. I drove my Quicksand home the next day. I would still be 1-2 weeks out from getting my truck if I hadn't gone used.

It also depends on what some of the other specifics are that you are looking for. Most of dealer stock has the 'most popular' (ie. biggest markup) generally available. This is why you would often see a couple base line trucks (for folks looking for business use vehicles), a decent number of 'well-appointed' ones, and very few in between.

Pretty bad time to buy anything. I'm sure your dealer is telling you the truth. My kitchen appliance package from Costco we ordered early February is on a container ship from South Korea right now.

Dealers want to sell you what they have on the lot. If they won’t get you what you want walk. Tell the next salesman why you walked. Find a hungry salesman.

I do not know about the new ones now. But i had a 2014 same as i have now in a 15. The 14 got totaled with 2600miles on it. and it took me three months to get the same thing in a 2015. I wanted the same color and they ( dealer) had a hard time finding it. I look at it this way... If i am paying for it. I am getting what I want.

I got mine last August through my credit union’s car buying service. He said you can put an order in with Toyota but half the time they don’t except the order even though your order sits there. I don’t know how that’s different from the salesman but it’s probably the same principle. He did tell me that the truck I ended up buying was coming through the port from Baja in two weeks and it had more options then I was looking for yet I only paid an extra $400 for it than Toyota.com was quoting with less options. In the end I couldn’t of been happier!

I just picked up my 21 TRDOR manual today. I called every dealer in a 150mile radius looking for manuals. This was the only one around and nobody had any even on order. There are plenty of trucks out there to buy but you are probably not going to get to pick colors and good luck if your looking for a rare spec/configuration.

It’s so weird that Toyota has these colors that people love. Voodoo, Cement, Army, etc. What do they crank out of the factory? White and silver.

Got the runaround from my dealer for 2 months , was looking for DCSB OR MT in Army Green with no xtra , told me that it would be almost impossible to get one . Got fed up with the BS , looked on auto trader and found one in AZ , I'm in WA , called the dealer , put my money down , flew down to Phoenix the next day and drove it back 1300 miles , it was so worth it . I had my order accepted exactly 20 days ago, dealer sent picture of the approval. Before ordering he said he looked up the package I wanted and had option to revert a truck currently being built to be built for what I wanted. Could be BS, but 24 hours later I got a picture of approval. TRD Sport in Cement, manual.

Congrats on going after and getting the truck you wanted. Sounds like you need to stop by your local Dealer and buy an oil filter or something small just so they can see you with that truck!

Could be all part of the New Pay Now, Buy Later Program. They know you’re gonna Mod the Hell outta it so Toyota wants you to feel how broke you’re gonna be sooner rather than later. :)

It's up to the distributor to decide whether to accept the order. When I wanted a manual in TX from Gulf States, they weren't receiving any manuals so the dealer had to put in a request to the distributor and get the allocation request approved (which it was, but it took about 3 months just for the approval).

But with the chip shortage and backlog, I'm sure they're not going to take any non-standard configuration requests right now.
