I know UD uses some of my rpm adjustments. I noted on the other thread that each truck is slightly different with rpm values, especially with exhaust. I think @Mooseditty17 might need to adjust the values a hair higher if that's the case.

@Mooseditty17 : RPM bouncing between a particular range of roughly 100 should receive the values being increased by 50. I've noticed this typically happens when the AC compressor is running or there are other electrical loads on the alternator. The truck is essentially searching for what rpm will best solve the electrical needs (VF Tuner doesn't have any functionality that lets us specify to the charge controller what the target voltage is).

@bluedegeon & @GrundleJuice I've found that the truck will do this over the course of a few hundred miles. After I put 1k on my tests it tends to not occur. I'm unsure if the truck has a specific learning value associated with this or not. Ultimately the tunes can only change the target rpms, therefore the truck is able to stay within a certain +/- range of this. I haven't tested AJ's UD since my tires aren't up for the challenge, nor have I seen what values he uses. I do know they are similar to my HnT 1.3.

All three of yall shoot me a message if you have any questions or concerns with RPMs. I am lucky enough to have a truck with 4 years left on an unlimited mile warranty, I've logged over 4k miles of various idle settings. Stalled out a few times on the low end, almost crapped myself playing with the high end.

This is stock settings on the left and your settings on the right. I saved your file before sending it to you...
I'm not sure what it is that you're having issues with, but idle settings should not be the culprit.
I will have to double check if the one I posted on TW for 04B04 was this way or had the changes @TermLimits is referring to. I personally am running the settings @TermLimits suggested without issue.

The version I shared on the thread is the same. only change was to the 512 at the lowest part of hot start idle. Changed to 550. If that is indeed the possible culprit, I will change this for all to reflash if need be.

Who recommends re-gearing to be one of the first mods to do to your Tacoma?

Welcome to TW, you should probably start a separate thread with your question.

I don't think anyone would recommend that unless you are also putting larger tires on.

I did more tests this morning. It’s the AC compressor. With stock idles so high when the compressor activates it does not make a noticeable change to the idle.

Reduced idle speeds: you can sit in silence and listen to the truck. You’ll hear the compressor click active from inside the cab, the idle will bump up then reduce shortly thereafter when the compressor disengages.

In park it was most noticeable on my tune not sure about Moose’s.

@Mooseditty17 unfortunately I don’t have a suggestion for what ranges to bring them into to reduce the compressor spiking. To me, this is normal since most of my other vehicles do this just maybe not as pronounced.

Ultimately the city mpg increase is worth it to me, maybe raising it 100-150 on the hot and warm will make it more subtle

I’m changing HnT to be called Valley Runner. Took a tip to AZ last week in the truck and all the valleys around there were a BLAST in the tune

I feel confident in pushing out Valley Runner 1.8 to the general public this afternoon. 2.0 isn’t free lol, over $300 in gas testing it alone plus the wife’s nagging of spending too much time in the truck

I’ve been running VR 2.0 for over 2000 miles now with great results. I’ve achieved the smoothest shifting between the 4 major tunes (OV, Kruiser, MnW/UD, VR).

It’s nice to see the truck’s inaccurate MPG bar pegged too.

Testers have been reporting 20-22mpg on flat highway and 17.5-18.5 city.

Here are a few teaser photos. These are from my most recent abuse tank of gas, after all we do like to race off the line

I've noticed this on a stuck tune as well. Even turning the steering wheel caused the idle to drop and the truck tries to compensate. I wouldn't go as far as saying its a SURGE, but it's certainly increasing the RPMs to compensate for the added load. AND YES, it's annoying as hell.

Yea we can look into upping the values slightly to try and remedy (it’s more pronounced with exhaust work). But there comes a point to where you’ll be setting values over stock to compensate considering Toyota’s tune does it too.

I mean hot drive idle at 1400 was FUN to race the truck. But if you don’t have interchangeable brown pants it’s not worth it

Message me your tire size, gear ratio if changed from stock, and any exhaust mods you’ve done. I’ll shoot you a tester of 1.9. Not quite 2.0 but it’s decent compared to it.

You think you’d be able to put about 100 miles on it today or tomorrow? Needing that little bit more (I’m the only double cab that’s been running it. AC folks have enjoyed it)

How may 04B04 folks have the ability to flash a VFC file to their truck? Feels like I'm the only one who hasn't had issues on the latest update of VF Tuner...

Just plug the truck in, prepare the ECU, Pick the file, and Calibrate... Works every time.

I’m like you don't necessarily need the 5.29 only consider it for future proofing. Cuz I only want to spend on it one and done lol. Hate to have to pay twice to move up to 5.29 from 4.88 but maybe not spending twice is the motivation to stay on 4.88 ratio/up to 33s on tires.

Seems like most people tend to work on lifts for first upgrades but I'm all tune and regearing off the bat. Just want to make sure 4.88 is fine for an all stock truck with no weights for some time. Rock sliders, full skid package, suspension, wheels, bed rack and tent will eventually come over time. Thanks y'all for chiming in.

Alright here we are. Valley Runner 1.8 for 04B04. The files are VFC which means you will need to be on the latest versions of VF Tuner to flash them. They're also locked.

Tire sizes are in the file name, stock gear ratios, idles have been compensated for various exhaust types (stock, MBRP, Flowmaster, Etc.).

Stock tires are 31.5 for those who need to know.
